I was wondering what your experience with heat exchangers on pots is? Are they a wonderful add on that saves its weight in fuel and time, or is it a stinky lead weight that has no value at all? MSR has one that they say is 25% better than stock, and is 160g. Thanks, BPL forum folks! Also, I think I deserve a gold star or at least a bronze banana for converting my mother in law to UL, she just ordered an MLD Prophet for our upcoming family trip to the West Coast Trail :-)
I know of no one who uses one. Including myself. Maybe for melting snow.

….if you are at altitude. If you're not spending multiple nights above 10,000 feet, a simple foil windscreen is all you need.
I can really tell a difference in the exchanger on my Primus. Pretty happy with it.
For me, it usually depends on the length of the trip, and whether i'm melting snow. I don't think they are worth the weight for short weekend trips. But definitely check out Jeff's link for a more concrete and scientifically based answer to your question.
Thanks everybody. I won't be at altitude, we'll be at sea level for a week, and there better not be snow in BC in August! I will be reading that article, but from what you put, I won't get one, and will carry the extra fuel.
