That's an interesting user name you have. Care to share any more details on that tent?
I am deciding whether to proceed at selling my tents but before I do I am just testing the waters to see if there is any interest….(removed) is my youtube and trail name… I have many vids on youtube with homemade gear…and opinions.
VERY interested, but at what price?
under $35 including shipping….
Is this one of those tents made out of Polycryo that was talked about in the MYOG thread a month ago? Where can we see some pics?
Edited: 2mil painters tarp material. Guess I should've watched the video first :)
it's also NOT the plastic shelter/roof over my hammock OR the Typar tarp-tent on youtube if anybody was wondering….it's partially made of Tyvek…I should have a video of it posted on youtube and some pictures tommorrow – Sat at the latest…
Nope…not the 2mil painters tarp material….a completly different concept…
Less than 8.5oz and under $35 shipped would definitely be intriguing, but obviously I would want more details, which it sounds like you're getting ready to release.
coming soon
baited breathe
That's "bated" breath…..as in "to abate" or as in "holding your breath"….
"Baited breath" is to have a worm on your tongue while fishing……
English teacher now dies…….
the prototype is 10oz.not 8.5oz….but thats only because I had to temporarily go with some slightly heavier material…again see my video at youtube : trollgoal
10oz.tent only
does not include case, stakes, guylines or treking poles….
$35 w/shipping US only
paypal ok..
IF INTERESTED EMAIL ME OR CALL

""Baited breath" is to have a worm on your tongue while fishing……"
I've always preferred fishbait breath, myself….
"Baited breath" refers to the panting of a hawk or falcon while waiting to go after the training bait.
Looks a lot like the Hawk Emergency Tube Tent to me. $10.99 without even looking for a bargain.
I've always wondered about tube tents – when it rains doesn't water collect on the floor and then start to run around until it gets absorbed by your sleeping bag?
you could actually sit up in mine and eat or cook your meal…84" L x 48" w x 48" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlfXY6gNRHM
seems to look like an overpriced piece of fragile alumium foil.
wouldn't rain catch easily at each end of the shelter?
Not made of any metal…polyester sidewalls (space station technology) + specialized Tyvek floor…
geared more toward those who like a tarp shelter…ends are open…no water will not pool inside anymore than a tarp shelter…
I can see how this design could meet the needs of some hikers perfectly, but "space station technology" and "specialized tyvek"?
I could buy two space blankets and a 4'x 7' piece of tyvek for about six dollars.
Space blanket film is also very fragile, and I noticed in the video that the edges are not hemmed or reinforced at all. If an edge gets nicked, the mylar will fly away in shreds. Also, you say that rain ingress wouldn't be any more of a problem than it would be for a tarp, but…your tube tent is seven feet long, and I can't see how it could be pitched low, either. With a fixed four foot high ridgeline and a length of seven feet, a lot of rain will get in. The shortest tarps are eight feet, and they can be pitched low when there is wind-blown rain. And a lot of those tarps weigh substantially less than ten ounces (even with a polycro ground sheet) and are made of much stronger materials (I'll grant that they are more expensive, though).
I have to apologize for sounding so critical. It's meant to be constructive. I'm just suggesting that the design and materials (and marketing) might benefit from some tweaking.
Since this is prototype #1 I'm sure you'll get your kinks out of it (whatever they may be) but from watching the video it could use a center grommet on the side walls to help in weight distribution of the force of the wind considering how much flat area those sides have.
Have you done any testing on that polyester material to see how it holds up to usage? I'm curious to know if it's like a AMK blanket or similar.
i like the part in the video where he says, "they don't just give tyvek away". lol
if you know where you can get Tyvek for (and I am going to either give you the benefit of the doubt here or completely call your bluff) at say $5 for 28sq.ft. (assuming that you have a secure source of polyester for $1 for 56sq.ft.) please let me know because you have a far better source than I do….if not feel free to check out this song… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3MzXz5aMjU
Wow.
Against my better judgement, and despite that last post of yours, I'll actually point you in the direction of some low cost materials, to aid you in your projects.
Here is one of many ebay vendors selling XL space blankets for a dollar each with free shipping:
Here is a vendor selling Tyvek for a dollar per linear foot from a roll nine feet wide (so a 4' x 9' piece, for your tent, would be four dollars):
That makes two space blankets and a surplus of tyvek for six dollars. Good luck.
