After years of synthetic bags, this site convinced me to try down again. I picked up a cheap Kelty Light Trekker 20 degree bag that didn't come with a storage sack. I'm keeping it in an old king-size pillow case. Any reason not too? Other ideas?

Thanks,
Ken

Or you could just lay it out under your bed like I do. Lets it fully loft all the time. And you can just put it in the bottom of your pack when you hike if you didn't get a stuff sack. Enjoy your new bag.

With a dog and three cats, laying it out isn't an option. Everything in this house ends up with cat hair (or worse, hairballs) on it. If I could convince the wife and kids to get rid of the animals, that would be an optimal solution.

On edit: I did get a regular stuff sack with it. It's not a compression sack, and doesn't seem to crush it too bad when packed.

You can store it in the pillow case. Anything that can breathe and let it store in a relaxed state. I would keep it up high and away from any heat. Cats love the nice big warm bed that you made for them if you don't keep it up high. They really love it when you get back from a trip because of the new forest smells that it has.(I have a cat, so I keep the closet door shut.)

Much bigger than a pillowcase to avoid compression. I fold my quilt in half, put it in here and hang it from a baby clothes hanger (they have little clips)in the closet. This keeps it fully lofted and away from the critters. The heavy cloth bag keeps the hanger clips from stressing the thin shell material of the quilt. (Not that I'm anal about such things)

hung bags

You can see it's the same size as the storage bags provided by WM.

The various kinds of 'Dollar Stores' usually have some kind of large draw-string laundry sack. I got one for a quilt that didn't have its own sack – works great.
