I'm intrested in purchasing a new headlamp for night hiking. It seems like the Zebra lights a very popular. I can't seem to decide between the H31 or the H51.Depending on the trip and the group I'm hiking with, I SOMETIMES carry a Steripen, so I was thinking the H31 may be the better option, since I can use the same batteries for both. What do you think? I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks John

Which Zebralight ?

I have the H31 and am a Steripen user. The clincher for me is the fact that when the CR123s won't light my Steripen, the voltage regulation in the H31 takes that "dead" battery and gives me light. I also only then have to carry type of battery.
My Steripen uses AA batteries and so I have the AA model Zebralight.
Same deal for me as John.
I dont see anyone mention the code for different settings. Its not entirely user friendly is it. Maybe we all think its 'just us'… better not say anything to prospective buyers?

Double click to toggle and select between the two sub-levels for that main level. Sub-level selections (except the strobe) for the 3 main levels are memorized after the light is turned off and through battery changes.

The second sub-level of the High can be configured after 6 double clicks. Double click (startng with the 7th) to cycle and select different brightness levels or strobes. Short click to turn off the light when finishing configurations. The selections for the second sub-level of the High are memorized after the light is turned off and through battery changes.
FYI – here are my measured weights on an H31, which I am quite happy with, although it could be lighter:
H31 HEADLAMP
+ 31g (1.1oz). sans battery
+ 14g (.5 oz.) CR123a battery
===================================
= 45g sub-total light only
+ 23g (0.8oz.) headband
===================================
= 68g total headlamp configuration
I also use the Cr123a Steripen. I rarely take the headlamp, though, in favor of a Photon light or a small AAA light @ less than half the weight. I just hold either of those in my mouth like an electronic cigarette when I hike at night.

Ah, but do you inhale?
Aye, I might if it were Ti. Really, i just have to be careful not to trip and have them shoved down me esophagus.
Wouldnt you drool on your cigarette? lol
Seems like a tedious chore for want of a headband imo
My only complaint is I have had the button hit in my pack several times now and found dead batteries as a result
like the others, also a CR123 steripen user and chose the H31, it seems there ought to be a way to have the headband weigh less- just haven't figured it out :)
on the battery drain, just unscrew the tail a little when storing- can't come on then
