I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the primus express spider but this looks promising. Where can I buy one?

Monatauk Gnat is even lighter than those primus stoves and cheaper too.

1.6oz

My Gnat must be a heavy one. It weighs 1.69 oz. Maybe it is the humidity.

"My Gnat must be a heavy one. It weighs 1.69 oz. Maybe it is the humidity."

Maybe you got the Newt instead of the Gnat. It's a common error.

Maybe I am missing something though.
Yes.
The Fire Maple is a remote canister stove.
Some like the lower center of gravity and/or the easier use of a windscreen.

This stove resembles the Gnat a lot in it's design details and the colors. I wonder if it's made by the same people? It basically looks like a they added tripod legs to the Gnat so it could stand separately from the canister.

AWWWW I didnt catch the fact that it lacks a pre-heat tube. What a Boner-shrinker

Without inverted canister capabilities, what's the pt of this stove? Doesn't seem worth the extra 2 ounces over a regular canister stove to only gain the ability of using a windscreen. Most canister stoves are stable enough as it is, even without the lower C.O.G. found in these remote fuel stoves. Add a 1oz pre-heat tube and make it functional…proceed to sell gazillions!

Dan, I think its the same make as the gnat. Monatauk was just North American branding. The Gnat looks to be listed in their catalog as well:
http://www.fire-maple.com/myWeb/EN/Productscont.php?pId=17&pType=14&bigid=11

Roger C. confirmed it as well in the comments section of BPL's review of the gnat…

"The unit Ryan got was from Monatauk, but my information is that it was actually designed and made by Fire Maple in China (where else). It is available from several sources around the world under various numbers or names, but sometimes with '116T' in the part number."

You're right, its appears to be a Gnat with titanium legs. Even the metallic orange finish is shared on both stoves

It may be a good choice for use with larger capacity pots (1.5 litre and above) where the reflected energy may overheat the cannister as well as the possibly better stability. I am certainly happy with the Monatauk Gnat.

Hello everyone.
I am the designer of FMS-117T.
We have a new model called FMS-117,
It's made of stainless steel.
It has a preheat tube and can be used with an inverted canister.

When will the FMS-117 be for sale? Will the 117t be offered with the preheat tube also?

Hi,

I've searched for any review of this stove, but unfortunately there was none.
The stove is available at local stores in China, Japan, Thailand and Russia.

Looks like FMS-117T, but with preheating tube and not Ti. 146 gram is still pretty low weight for remote canister with preheating tube. With legs removed (use in cone or bobcat) maybe you will hit 100 g.

The only review I found is in Japanese. Here you can read it google-translated: http://translate.google.co.il/translate?hl=iw&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fcountry-kitchen.pro.tok2.com%2Fmaster%2Fstove1.htm

I'm going to order one in Russia. So if you need review/youtube of this stove, I can do it after month or so.

You don't need to buy it from Russia. They are available from Chineese online stores like aliexpress.com
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/541856146-Travel-Outdoor-cooking-stove-Camping-Gas-Burner-camping-stove-Portable-Stove-Portable-and-Lightwieght-FMS-118-wholesalers.html
I have used FMS 118 in overnight trip, cooking for five people, it worked without any flaws. It is little heavier than stated – 149 g. It is the only thing that i can name "disadvantage" at this point=)

Hi Stanislav,

Great! Thank you for reply. On that website stated price is $56 including shipping it to Israel!
Have you tried to remove legs from the stove and weight it?

I have saw on some Russian websites that the weight of this stove is 150 gram however. Anyway it is lightest wide-burner remote canister stove with preheating tube I know.

I would love if they'd made it from Ti like 117T to shape some more grams.

WOW on that website price for Titanium FMS-117T is only $60, not $100 like on eBay!

Try to research if that seller on Aliexpress is reputable. There are some really bad sellers on Aliexpress, but some good. It's just a marketplace, sort of like eBay.

Asked Fire Maple about whether they plan to make FMS-118 from titanium. Here is their answer:

Hello Greg,

Firstly thanks very much for you pay attention on our Fire-Maple stove!

FMS-117T stove is mean to reduce the weight but with hi-power, so you can see the stove only have the major body and without anyother attached functions.

The biggest point of Titanium stove is ultralight weight, if we add a preheating tube on it, it'll increase the weight and can't able to rise the function based on titanium material, so at present we dropped this idea, but we'll still try our best to develop more kinds of products, we hope in near future we can have the one you like, but at this we'll not doing much change much on our existing items!

FMS-117T & FMS-118 is almost the same, the difference is the material and preheat tube! I cann't promise you whether we'll have a FMS-118T in near future, but i'll forwarder your request to my desinger department and we'll try our best to develop the new products!

Thanks again & Best Regards,

Kathy

Hi Greg,

I wonder if it's asking whether the two stoves are compatible/interchangeable?

ie, could you buy both, and screw the 177T legs and head onto the 118 hose and pre-heat?

I think you can, but you need to spare big buck for that what I don't want to do :)

The parts are simply the same except the material.

Anyway I want to order that 118 and remove legs to use it with bobcat (like caldera cone). I think I can hit 100 gram with this. If I substitute that wide burner with that of 117T I think I could save 20 gram more. Does it worth to buy a separate Ti stove for that?
Maybe it is possible to order this Ti burner? Claiming you have your 117T crashed?

If you can get Fire-maple to sell you any of their stoves in ones or twos, LET ME KNOW!
In the past FM would only sell in quantities of 1,000.

Cheers
