Apr 20, 2011 at 1:39 pm #1727142Not to state the obvious, but just go down the weight side of the list and TAKE ONLY THE ABSOLUTELY LIGHTEST OTION.
And then leave behind anything that is NOT ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL!
Do that, and you're done.

MISSING:
– soap
– sunblock
– tiny first aid kit
– tiny repair itemsApr 21, 2011 at 12:13 am #1727384Thanks for the help so far! (it's good to get that kick in the A**) I really feel that I am hoarding a lot of gear I don't need/use…
The requested details:
1 ) Are you SOLO camping, or part of a TEAM?
50% alone
50% with 1 partner2 ) WHERE will you be camping?
90% Switzerland (Alpine to mid-Alpine terrain) usually near lakes, rivers
10% Italy, France, Spain… mid-Alpine down to sea level3 ) What type of WEATHER do you expect?
90% good weather (little rain, wind, snow, storms, etc.)
10% bad weather on longer trips (rain, wind, snow, storms, etc.)4 ) How LONG is your proposed trip?
90% overnighters (3 season & winter)
10% multi day trips up to 14 days (3 season only)What gear list would you set together for:
– 3 season
– winterAll items that would not appear in either of these lists I could then eliminate from the gear closet and thereby have just the items I need.
Apr 22, 2011 at 1:42 pm #1728093You should use a spreadsheet. Columns and weight are easy to do and it's easier on the eyes.
Cheers~!
May 19, 2011 at 6:51 am #1738474ok, so a lot of stuff is on internet auction now… I made a few decision and my gear closet is getting slimmer and slimmer… at the same time I have also ordered replacements… I already like the result a lot…
I will post a revised gear closet list in a bit… to get some feedback for further reductions possibilities…
Jun 8, 2011 at 1:35 pm #1746544The kitchen now reads:
– evernew 0.9l pot (about 100g, I think, haven't weighed it yet)
– cat stove (7g)
– pot cozy (20g)
– Spork (7g)
– Bic lighterand that's it….
The next area I am working on is the clothing. Too much in my closet and I carry too much. Just bought some long hiking pants that weight 227g and are really comfy. Thinking about ditching the rain pants for overnighters….. maybe build a rain skirt… let's see…
Jun 8, 2011 at 3:26 pm #1746602Add a wind screen to that stove, a folded section of kitchen aluminium foil is the lightest.
