Scott, my guess on the H2O is its something you want to take with you on a dry day just in case it turns wet. To me it doesn’t look or feel like something you’d want to walk out the door in when its already raining. It looks just like the Featherlite but with a slightly ‘stiffer’ feel to the fabric. Its the type of thing I’d put in my bum (fanny to you guys I think) bag when out running on a mixed weather day. When running in the rain over here I use an OMM Kamelika Smock. Its got a windproof feel to it and its waterproof and weighs 300g. I’ve been tempted to order an Integral Designs Event Rain Jacket because 270g for a breathable, waterproof jacket is phenomenal.

Anyway I’m tempted to get an H20 jsut so I can test it out and report back, even if I dion’t really like it I can use it as my bum bag carriable insurance.

Nigel,

I think you are right. I generally spend time hiking in the mountains during summer and fall. Almost always only dealing with those pop-up thunder storms. I do however sometimes go to the coast in the winter and think there could be some snowshoe backpacking in my future at some point. That would require a lot of gear I do not have at this point, so the summer-kit focus continues for me.

It appears the e bay dealer did get the jacket sent, so hopefully I can take it out for a review too. It is raining now in Northern California.

Hi,
We are one of Montane larger UK retailers and we regularly ship to the US.

You save by not paying our 17.5% sales tax and our shipping charges to the US for light items like the H20 are not high.

Our website is http://www.hike-lite.co.uk

Hi Paul,
I have just spent about 30 minutes looking over the web site and reading your BLOG.

I enjoyed reading about what is going on in the UK reference Light Weight Gear. I will be checking your BLOG every so often for more updates.

BackpackingLight.com might think about organizing a few teams to compete in one of the OMM events with some of the Super Ultra Light gear we are playing with over here.

Your gear list for “gear that has to be carried” might be a good one to see how light a pack weight we might be able to come up with.

Can “Home-Made” gear be used?

>>If BPL were to bring Montane into the store, which items would be of most interest? We wouldn’t be able to stock their entire line by any means, and we’re not really in that business anyways, but I’d consider bringing in a few pieces if there is reader interest.<< Aside from montane I think there are a few key items of intrest that may be worth stocking from other hard to get manufacturers as well. Examples are:
rab VR trail smock
berghaus strecth equilibrium pants
outdoor designs Airstream Dry Sack
etc.
