So I finally ditched my tent and built a 5X9 tarp and a MYOG Meteor bivy. I have learned most of the knots and the basics from alot of reading on here, but there are still a few things im curious about. One of them is wind. I see alot of posts on here saying to pitch your tarp low side to the wind, but how do you tell this? Obviously its pretty easy to tell when you first pitch it, but what about wind shifting? Another thing is there a general rule on what direction the wind comes from? I saw a post a few days ago that said "if your pitching by a lake its easy to tell what direction the wind will come", why is this?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions. Just trying to get all the kinks worked out before this June when I'm taking a 20 day bike trip down the pacific coast, and wanted to get everything worked out before then. Especially when on the news today I see reports of 90mph winds in oregon, yikes!
