There is a lot to like about the Osprey Hornet 46 pack:
+ Main compartment capacity is just right for a lightweight thru-hiker.
+ Frame sheet provides just enough structure & protection from pack contents.
+ Hydration pouch has very easy access (don't need to get into the pack at all)
+ Convenient kanga-style pouch for fast access or as a place for wet clothes to dry
+ Long side pockets with options for access & straps for securing
+ Versatile top pocket (like the Exos design), but easier to remove if desired.
+ Excellent shoulder pockets & chest strap designs.
+ Excellent waist belt pockets (prefer Hornet design vs. Exos).
However, it is just TOO SHORT in length. I estimate that the M/L Hornet torso fit is about 3 inches shorter than the L Exos (my current pack). I'm 5'11" and have a 20" torso and the "waist" strap on the Hornet ends up about 1" above my belly-button.

I would love this pack if they had a true L or XL size that would fit a 20" torso. For now, the kids have inherited it because it just doesn't fit me.
^ those are the exact findings many of us have discovered- sadly :(
I've suggested that folks email Osprey and let them know, worth a shot anyways
I fiddled around with the Hornet in store recently, I was impressed with the pack as a commercially available UL pack, it has a really nice set of features and attention to detail with the exception of it not fitting anyone. I picked up a M/L and thought I was holding a kid's pack.
I really like this pack, which even carries all my winter ( heavier) gear, very nicely.
Sorry to hear the problems people are having with sizing……. For me it's a perfect fit : )
"For me it's a perfect fit : )"
Ah, so it's European sized…..
"…..so it's European sized.."
Short and stout, can handle a lot, not overly voluminous, can do 4 season trips……yeah, I guess it's European sized . …
I recently tried another pack and it made appreciate this one even more. A good fit has a lot to do with it.

I meant the pack……. ;-)
Yeah. I was just editing that. It just sounded wrong….
The M/L means mens/ladies
a little update from Osprey- they have been listening :) spring 2012 will see the Hornet 46 in S, M, L just like Exos series, the Large will likely fit most of us that found the M/L too small
they are also lengthening the M/L Hornet 24, 32- this change should happen even a little quicker (Jan/Feb)
so anyways- nice to see they are listening (albeit a little late :))
