I expect these to sell completely out today. In fact I want them to sell out today. They're at 70% off now.

Small packs come with small hip and shoulder pieces
Medium packs come with medium hip and shoulder pieces
Large packs come with large hip and shoulder pieces

Interchangeable accessories are available for mixing and matching

Dash it all- down to $69/66!

Ack- fail upon fail… Too slow! As I was checking out, the last one in Large went. Let's see some reviews- seemed like an appealing pack, at least for me. :)

I had the same thing happen as well. Disappeared as I got to the last checkout step. I dropped my credit card and that slowed me down. I think it was subconscious self sabotage on my part, as I didn't need this pack, since it duplicates my Gorilla for 10 oz more weight, but 70% off short-circuited the rational part of my brain. Well, I'll just take the $75 I just didn't spend and put it into my McHale pack hopechest. Only hundreds more dollars to go!

My mistake was making an attempt to enforce my gear budget- took the time to do a bump and price drop on the pack I was selling in Le Swap. :)

Oops, missed out on the Medium packs, but I was able to get the medium shoulder straps and large pocketed hipbelt for ~$7 each! I'll need to chop down the hip belt, but it's an easy start on my DIY pack project.

Thanks!

"Large packs come with large hip and shoulder pieces"

The info page said that large packs supposed to come with medium shoulder straps :( I sure hope large shoulder straps are not too big for me, there were some available when I did the order but did not choose them. The shipping (+toll + taxes) make another order way too expensive.

Sam,

When is today's 10% going to come off for the remaining Absarokas in size small? I believe it has happened at around 9 or 10 MST every other day.

Yesterday I ordered a couple hipbelts and a couple shoulder straps to put together a couple of my own packs. Looking forward to the package arriving!

The price of the BPL Absaroka on the online store has not dropped today’s promised 10% yet according to the terms of the gambler’s sale offer advertised on the webstore. I’ve been looking at the inventory numbers throughout the sale so I would know when to take the “gamble” to order, and since this morning (the price has dropped each morning at around 10 or 11AM EST) at least 6 backpacks were sold at yesterday’s sale price, netting BPL at least $21.50 per order if ordered from members, or as much as $23 per order if ordered by non-members.

Either BPL purposely hasn’t honored their sale terms, freezing the price at 70% off, or they made an honest oversight (such as the one Sam acknowledged and corrected with the accessories not dropping by 10% each day). Earlier in the thread Stephan alleged that BPL has previously capped the discount during these sales. If they are going to do that, they should state it upfront in the offer’s advertisement. Certainly this time, no such cap on discount was mentioned in the sale flyer:

absaroka sale flyer

According to a knowledge base article BPL accepts orders through their secure website contact form. I just placed an order for two (2) of the BPL Absaroka backpacks, size small through the form accepting the terms of the advertised gambler’s sale offer at today’s correct member price of $43.70 (80% off the member’s price of $218.49).

Hopefully the lack of a price drop today was an honest oversight, and BPL will accept my order in a timely fashion, and refund the 10% difference to anyone that ordered the pack since this morning and was not given today’s proper discount pursuant to the offer. In the future BPL should make a greater effort to be timely in adjusting their sale prices if they are going to continue with their “gambler’s sale” offers. If they are uncomfortable in discounting their prices by 80% or more, then state that condition up front.

or consider that you ordered and agreed to the price of the item that was in your cart. that's what you should pay IMO.

It says that the backpack is sold out, which means to me that the sale is over, even if there are a few smalls left. Maybe I am reading this wrong, but they did not promise to continue until fully sold out. I think it was implied they could just end the sale, which it looks like they did.

Gosh this kind of stuff is getting so tiring. Nick, I get closer to your view of the world every day….

Jack,

I placed my order through the web form, accepting the offer of 80% off the member price as advertised. You do have a solid point that the people who made the purchase agreed to the price they authorized their credit card for, but I still think that BPL should stick to their word on the conditions of the sale. It follows that they would refund the difference in price from any sales that happened today.

Katharina,

If you change the drop-down menu to size small, it changes from sold-out to available. The sale is not over. I'm not addressing a hypothetical, if paradoxical, situation of the sale continuing once all stock is sold out, but the actual situation of stock remaining and BPL not honoring the stated terms of their offer. "Each day we take 10 more off"

Douglas,

I'm tired of this too. That's why I chose to bring it up to the community. Not everyone is interested in a good at every price. I "gambled" by waiting 8 days, and I'm interested in this backpack at the price promised by the flyer. I just want BPL to honor the conditions of their sale.

The key word here is "Gambler's." I am not a casino guy because to me, backpacking and casinos are almost opposite ends of the spectrum, but I think the way it works is that the dealer and the gambler do not let each other know what they are holding. While I understand that it's unclear from the ad when the sale ends and what will be the final discount, it seems unreasonable to expect it to go down to 100% off if stock remains. If BPL spells this out with full detail, it is not a Gambler's sale.

UL gear is specialized and rarely discounted. To me 20% off is nice, 50% off is awesome, and more than that is almost unheard of. I gambled a bit on this sale and got one pack for 50% off then picked up another the next day when they dropped to 60% off. I've been unemployed for a while so I couldn't afford to get an Absaroka out at full price but this sale made it feasible so I'm excited to try it out. I even felt a bit guilty getting one for 70% off. However, getting upset at BPL for not continuing to drop the price seems like getting mad at people for not dropping $20 bills in front of me as I walk down the street.

I think i get where the confusion is. It's 10% per day.
10% of $200 is $20.. But 10% of $80 is $8.
So as the sale progresses the price reduction per day decreases.
Either way it's a Smokin' deal on a pack Bro!

Matt,
It's 10% each day off of the full price. Yesterday the price dropped to $65.54, which is 70% off of the full member price of $218.49 and was day 7 of the sale. But you're right, a great deal either way. I look forward to mine.

PostedMar 9, 2011 at 1:44 pm

If you wait two more days the packs will be available for free. Inevitably some packs will go back in stock from returns due to fit/wrong size ordered etc.

Well now, if we're gonna get all anal and whiny and petulant about 'promises made,' let's ensure we read ALL the terms and conditions, not just the one's that are most beneficial to us.

To whit, in the BPL terms and conditions section: "THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, THAT INFORMATION PROVIDED AT THIS WEB SITE IS ACCURATE OR RELIABLE"

I guess that means that there is no warranty that BPL would actually take 10 percent off an item until it reached 0, or any stage between 100 and 0.

Works for me.

When the cocoon quilts has a similar sale and they did not run out of them some people got them for free. Those that where patient actually got payed to take the items.

I am looking for spelling or grammar errors in your post but I didn't see any

Actually I sorta scored 100% off my recent BPL purchase.
I won the $25 gift card at the BPL Henry Coe event and i needed light for the AT so i scored the Photon Freedom from BPL. With shipping i paid like $1 and some change!
Kinda sorta like almost free!
Hey! I am not a cheap skate! Just needed a micro light thats all… :)
Anyhow i will think of BPL every time i go out and take a leak at night on the AT with my little thingy.. LIGHT that is.. Little Light! :)

I heard that if stock was left and you ordered on day 12 of the sale then you get the pack for free, plus 10% of retail stuffed in the BPL 500ml Ti pot, and it is all delivered to your home by a stripper; gender of your choice, of course.
