ok, so I was at that trailrunner shop today…. checked out the inovs…. nice shoes… they give me the exact flexibility I was looking for… unfortunately they only had the models with GTX… the mesh ones will arrive in March only… so I am gonna wait for that… I got some GTX socks in the meanwhile though… they weigh 47g each… cost CHF 89.– quite pricy… though I now can turn any shoe into a waterproof one… how cool is that

I think I am really gonna go for a light shoe system…

– mesh trailrunners, 300g (summer stand alone use for hiking and everyday use)
– GTX socks 47g (turn any shoe water- and windproof, summer paragliding it's nice to have a windblocker)
– lace up brace, est. 150g (add protection and support for start and landing manouvers when paragliding)
– gaiters, est. 80g (maybe I'll add those later if I find them necessary…. let's see)

that's 580g for one completely covered and protected foot… vs. 785g from my current boots… 200g weight saving, 400g in total (both feet), but that's not the main gain for me… it's the versatility…

I can wear and adjust that system for ALL situations… I am gonna follow that.. let's see how it works out….

pack: jam is set (gear swap thread opened)
pads & bags: gonna keep what I have
stove: my alcstove for all situations (I'll keep the Crux for now)
shelter: I'll change to a Sil/SpinnTwinn (gear swap thread openend)
shoes: going towards trailrunners (longer process)

pot(s): still need some advice here – current set up:
– MSR alpine classic 1.5&2l pot, stainless steel, full weight (incl. handler) 602g

what I am looking for:
– reduce weight & bulk…
– still be able to prepare decent, fresh food (incl. frying)

I am looking at the everynew 1.3l/0.9l pot with frying lid, non-stick or without…

Can you fry steaks and fish on these ti-pots with non-stick coating? What size do you recommend?

just looked at an old can… can you use tin cans as pots? is it possible? safe? healthy? bad taste? anyone tried?

I used the search but couldn't really find anything…

Claudio,

Tin cans (those originally used for food, anyway) are fine for boiling water. At least for a few trips minimum.

Most have an epoxy (or other similar) resin lining which can come off into your food if scraped, etc. Therefore true "cooking" probably isn't a good idea.
