Another snow trip?

Hopefully you'll be posting pictures of your Moment in the snow, soon ??

This is probably why we haven't heard from our friends.
I guess they are having a blast playing in all the snow.

All roads into Yosemite National Park have been temporarily closed after a major storm dumped snow, caused mudslides and downed trees and power lines.

Park officials said Monday that power is out across Yosemite Valley and about 200 visitors are being evacuated.

Officials say the weekend storm dropped more than 3.5 feet of snow throughout the park in the last 24 hours, including in Yosemite Valley, Wawona, and Crane Flat.

Highways 41, 120 and 140 entering the park have been closed.

The California Highway Patrol says Highway 41 has been reopened outside the park despite hazardous conditions from snow and toppled trees. Downed trees and power lines have also shut down Highway 140 outside the park between El Portal and Midpines.

Officials say they're not sure when those roads will reopen.

"Highways 41, 120 and 140 entering the park have been closed."

But the BPL crew only needs one of those highways leaving the park, not entering.

I just got off the phone with Jane Baack. She was on the Coe trip. Jane called the Yosemite rangers. According to the rangers our group is fine. They spent last night at the Badger Pass Day Lodge. They departed Badger Pass around 4pm today in a convoy down to Yosemite Valley. From there they will be driving out on HW120. It will be a while before we hear from them. I can't wait to here their stories.

I was suppose to go on this trip. Some people may say I'm lucky I didn't go. My feeling on this is that this trip was Adventure and as long as everyone comes home safe it was worth it. Not only was it worth it, it will stand out as a trip to remember and tell stories about. I wish I was there with them. Life should be an Adventure!

Richard oh so true! The fear that I have is that I cannot miss work. It would be a bummer! But yeah some good stories should be had!

Yosemite National Park gets one or the other of its highways closed every year. It is unusual for multiple highways to be closed simultaneously, or for very long.

In the past, whenever we planned a snowcamping trip in the Badger Pass to Glacier Point area, we would watch the weather forecast carefully. If it looked like something really bad blowing in, we would still go, but we would suddenly shift our destination to someplace lower where it would be easier to escape, if necessary.

I've skied back to the Badger Pass parking lot to look for my parked car, and I couldn't find it because of the snow depth. I had to start digging out cars until I found the right one.

I've skied out of Desolation Valley to find my car a bump in the snow. Good thing was I knew which tree it was parked near.

Richard we are looking to do this again in April if your down….I will ski too!

Another good place is near Carson Pass, at the Red Lake turnout. I've seen the road closed to the west, but never to the east also.

i was just getting in the car to go over to jacks house (around the corner) and get a report from his wife as to thier situation so i could update this thread

glad to hear they are ok im sure they will all have a cool story to tell when they get home

Very good to hear they are accounted for. I was driving to work this morning thinking of them as looked east. The snow in the Sierra was down very low. I guessed about 2.5k feet. The pictures from this trip should be great.

Have you picked a weekend for the April trip? The last weekend (30th)is the best for me. I'm fairly booked up for the month. I would be willing to cancel my April 16th weekend plans to do a snow trip. I should be able to take off the Friday and or possibility take a Monday off for whichever weekend the trip is. I would like to do at least two more snow trips this season.

I got home about 11:30. Jack had to take Adam, Andy and Brian, 2 hikers we met on the trail to Oakhurst to pick up their vehicles then back to 99 then to Bakes. He will get in late. We were stranded at Badger Pass Ski resort sun. night with about 35 other people. The snow blower came up from the valley around 3:PM today and then escorted us to the valley floor where we had to take 120 out as 41 was closed and 140 was closed due to slides. More later.

I just made it back at 6:30 am. Jack dropped me off at 12:30 am, hopefully he made it back safe and will update us when he gets some sleep. There will be a trip report coming. But I have to say for a first time winter camping experience that was epic! Thanks for checking in on us and take care.

Made it home around 3:30 a.m. Tus. got 3 hours of sleep after being up 21 1/2 hrs, now its off to work, will try to post more when I get home. WHAT A TRIP, YEAAAHHH!!!!

Man that looks awesome! Glad you guys are ok! That looks like a fun trip…..I would have loved to have gone, but my employers would have killed me if I missed work

I will try to start a trip report, and pics, but I will move it over to trip reports, and it will be labled "Epic Snow Trip". I just need to re-coup first, then I will post, Once I post that thread then Adam, and Marc can post there part of the trip report also. I just want to say, I'm glad that the other BPL members that couldn't make it stayed on top of the thread, and when I, and the others didn't post, you guys started making the right phone calls to find out how we were doing. That means a lot, knowing somebody has you're back if things go south, I love this community of people "BPL'ERS ARE AWESOME" Here's just one to wet your whistle

Just to make this photo a little more interesting you should mention that on 3 sides of where Adam is standing the ground drops about 3,000 or 4,000 feet. That's a fun place to hang out!
