EMS(Eastern Mountain Sports)

It is bigger and lighter than the Flash 18. The flash has daisy chains on the back, the EMS one has loops for you to add your own compression/tie down straps. Both have hydration sleeves. The EMS has a brain, the Flash does not. The EMS has mesh pockets on the outside(where I like to keep my water), the Flash does not. Don't get me wrong, the Flash 18 is also a nice alternative. I just decided that the EMS version was a better fit for my needs.

Backpackgeartest.org has a number of tests with these pack with straps style bags

i would urge you try one on loaded before buying

it works fine for me with higher volume low weight items

there is no support or structure so its not for heavier day hiking loads
