Cameron, I will change the first page. I did put up another thread explaining the change. Thanks for the ideas

3rd Annual Bay Area BPL Hike

I just stumbled across this discussion and like the idea of starting a hike from Hunting Hollow on Friday to meet with other BPL members on Saturday. Sunset on Februar 26 is at 5:56 pm and there will be half moon.
I figure it is 15 – 16 miles from Hunting Hollow via Willson Peak to China Hole and then up to Manzanita Point. The first three miles up to Willson Peak are already 1,600 ft of climb.
I'm no sure how long it will take me during Friday's rush hour to get to Hunting Hollow, but I dont' think I will be able to be there before 4 pm (possibly 5 pm). I would be willing to hike the first couple of hours in the dark to shorten the distance for the next day and make it to the group site at a decent time on Saturday.
The park rules say that backpacking groups can be at most 8 people. So who else would be interested?
I'm interested! How'd we run the shuttle?
I'd prefer starting earlier in the day if anyone is up to it.
What's a good online trail map for Coe?
Hmm, I'm unsure of a good online map, but I got a nice topo from my local REI and there are black and white 8.5×11" topo maps available for free at the park. I think I recycled my 8.5×11" copy, it had gotten pretty beat up, but perhaps someone can scan one?
PS – a quick google search turned up the free Coe map. Well, so far only the Hunting Hollow section of the park. But it's great quality. http://media.photobucket.com/image/henry%20coe%20topo%20map/liVilike/Henry_Coe_State_Park_Hunting_Hol-1.jpg
Maps can be found online at Henry Coe maps
You would need two of those maps to plan a hike from Hunting Hollow to the Manzanita Point Group Sites.
You can start with the color map of Hunting Hollow and plan from the parking lot at Hunting Hollow to the intersection of Coit Rd and Mahoney Meadow Rd (in the NW corner of the map – hidden under the “C” of “Coe”)
Then you can continue on the B&W map of Coe headquarter where you find that intersection at the bottom of the second page along Mahoney Ridge.
Ken,
If there's room I'd like to get my name on the list of people attending.
Thanks,
Richard
Of course Richard, you are on the list
I plan on being there Friday night but I am not very excited about Henry Coe. Big Basin, Vicente flat or elsewhere in Ventana are much more appealing to me, but I am game.
Kat, transportation issues with Tassajara Rd. has changed the destination. If there is a storm a few days before, the road is not passable.
As for Big Basin, a group site costs $335 and I don't have the patience to collect money from others nor foot the bill. We are at 48 people right now and there is no place to host other than Coe. The total allowed at this site is 50. There are other group sites available too.
As for overflow, all others that would like to attend, we will need to secure a second group site. They cost $75 each. I will be doing the first one, but cannot afford to do a second one. I am not sure as to how the rangers check on crowds, but I would hate to get kicked out for too many people. So with that said, we are nearly full. Again, if someone would like to secure a second site please do so. Maybe all of us can chip in a few dollars to offset cost.
This is the count that I have right now as of today. A total of 49

Ken, I understand and agree with the issues. Don't mean to be a downer, sorry. I have been to Coe quite a bit and it is nice for big groups. I will be there and enjoy every bit of it.
Ohhh Kat, trust me. I am not too stoked on Coe myself.
The gear and the people will more than make up for the setting. Which is still outside in a hugh park.
Coe is beautiful. Not the place to be in summer; way too hot and dry. Lots of beautiful oaks and buckeyes. Steeeeep hills. It will be great:)
Here I am RSVPing.
Anyone willing to drive me from the main headquarters to the another trailhead on Sunday night? I'd love to be able to do a point to point hike, but need help with the shuttle. This may be a forty five minute drive or more out of your way….
RSVP to me if you're interested in backpacking from a further away trailhead on Friday. Likely, some will start in the evening after work, and some will start earlier…
@Kat: I agree; Coe has a beauty to it. I think this time of the year the weather will be quite tolerable and there should be water. Henry Coe isn't on any of my top lists of places that I love to go backpacking, but it's secluded backcountry close to home. I think we're spoiled in the Bay Area and Coe lacks a lot of the glamour of so many other places that are within driving distances.
@Jack: I'm trying to make Friday work, but at this point the entire trip is up in the air for me, so we'll see. If I can, I'd love to.
Manfred, I put you on the list because I saw that you were mentioning hiking. Did I miss you, or are you throwing your name into the hat? Please let me know
I'm still in, but if any thing changes I'll let you know so someone else can have my spot.
Ken H –
Please put me down as confirmed.
Thank you.
i'm still in.
thanks for putting this all together.
david i like you mtn biking idea….
To help defer cost on the procurement of 2 group spots I would like to ask that each person attending donate $2. It's a big chunk of change for Ken and I to front. This can be paid in advance. To keep things simple you can do a personal Paypal transfer to kenthompson2@mac.com Your help is appreciated and will make this type of event possible. If you have a problem or suggestion please PM me. Thanks. We in no way are looking to profit from this.
I will be there Friday and may be able to help shuttle a couple to another trailhead. Pm me your plans.
Who is in for Friday night? I will be getting a spot for my little group and would like to know if we will have company.
Myself and possibly my daughter
Ken,
Yes, put me on the list please. I'm thinking about bringing my family too. Wife and kids going to the main site and doing a short hike in., while I would hike from Hunting Hollow. How do I PM you best to discuss details?
Manfred
Manfred. You are not set up for PM's You can e mail me at kenthompson2 at mac.com
