Should be a fun trip! I am trying to figure out a swap meet that can be done on Sunday. The trailhead is not very suitable for show and tell, and I am sure all of you gram weenies do not want to haul your stuff in. I am leaning towards somewhere along the road that takes you to the trailhead or possibly in Carmel Valley….for those that are familiar with this area, what are your thoughts?????

I'm in as of right now. Depends on getting the time off work but I should be able too.

I'd like to carpool with someone because I don't know how well my car will handle a dirt(mud) road in Feb. I'll get the gas.

I see trees in that photo, will anyone else going to be in a hammock?

I'm sure carpooling opportunities will present themselves as the date draws closer. You will not be the only hammock there.

I'm in. I'll take a trip for the weekend. It's on my calendar.

And are we talking the Ventana Wilderness? I've done some hiking up there and love it. I've still got maps of it, too.

Yes Ben. Pine Valley in Ventana. I've PM'd you with a carpooling solution.

All……judging by Kat's photos you will get a good sense of what the valley looks like. This valley will accomodate a lot of folks! Thank you for posting those pics Kat!

I have a question………..will the valley accommodate 50+ people as far as catholing goes?

Nevermind, I thought that was Pico Public above, but it is reportedly Pine Creek Falls.

I will have to come up Fri. night and hike in Sat. morning tne boss doesn't give time off between Oct- March. If its a well marked trail I can hike in Fri. night. How many miles one way?

6-7 miles and probably some overgrown areas. There are campsites along the road to the trailhead.

For those that are attending 2011's Bay Area BPL trip, I have added a information portion on the first post about driving up to the trailhead as well as David's concern about waste.

Also, this trail is somewhat un-maintained and if any of you are hiking in on Friday in the dark, please understand that there are trees down over the trail, there could be some snow, and at times the trail is hard to navigate in the dark. There are plenty of campgrounds at the trailhead, one that comes to mind is the China Camp right next to where you park.

Sort of late to this discussion, but I would like to join in if I can. I haven't packed in Ventana in years.

Mark, no worries….The end of Feb. is a long way off. You are more than welcome to join in. There are a bunch of us that live in the Santa Cruz area so carpooling can be done too

That's not a bad idea, Jack! I could charge by the ton.

But that particular Unimog is landlocked at the far end of Florence Lake.
