Thanks for the invite….unable to make it.

I have a trip the following weekend, day hike with my Dad in Yosemite.

Sorry Tony I never get my pm's for some reason, to bad you can't make it we need a good photographer HA! HA! Just kidding, I'm sure between all of us there will be plenty of picture taking, maybe next trip. Jack

Jack, go to My Accounts and just make sure that the email address that notifies you of pm's is correct. It is in the forum profile section. I just had to do that the other day

Hey Jack,

Sent you a PM, but just read that you don't get them. Anyway, if a spot is still available, I'd like to join you, Ken and Kat for the Rae Lakes Loop.

Your in Casey, all spots are taken, unless we hear from Adan by the end of the week to say otherwise.

Here's the new list as of 7-14-2010

1. Jack E.
2. Ken H.
3. Katharina P.
4. Dylan S.
5. Csey B.
6. Adan L.

Adan I will hold your spot until Sun. Please let us know if you can't make it so we can reopen 1 spot

There you go folks looks like we have our hiker's, now we just need to get the gear together, and the car pooling.

Just a little reminder this trip requires a bear canister, I know me and Ken are using the Bare Boxer bear canister's. I have a Garcia if any one needs to use it.
This should be a great trip.

Feel free to list any food you are going to take, I know I'm always up for new food ideas, especially on longer trips, I get bored with the same old Mountain House, but thats what I will probably end up bringing, unless you guy's come up with some good recipes I can use. Just a sneak peak to wet your whistle

Hello everyone,

I'm stoked to see the spots filling up! Casey where in the Bay Area do you live? I'm in SF and was planning on heading down to Ken's place Wed morning. Are you close to me, if so we should carpool.

I could use a few suggestions in the food department as well. I do FBC when I'm in the backcountry but mashed potatoes again… Jack have you tried Pro Bar's? I like them for a snack while I'm walking.

I just sent my backpack in to be repaired, they claim one week turnaround for the repair. Fingers crossed otherwise I'll be shouldering the old beast.

Dylan,

I think you, me and Kat are all riding with Ken, leaving Scotts Valley around 5 pm. I plan on working Wed, and arriving in Scotts Valley right around 5 pm. If you want a ride you could meet me at my office in Oakland (12th Street BART station) around 3:30 pm. By the way, I live in Kensington (Berkeley Hills).

I've got my request in for Wed-Fri. I dont anticipate any problem getting the time off.

I'll be driving up from LA so I'll be meeting everyone at the campground. The only cannister I have is a Bear Vault 500 which is the big one. (sigh)

Just a few heads up here. With Casey joining in, my car is now full. That makes 4 riding up from the Bay Area. Jack, if you want to coordinate with Adan then we can all just meet at the campsite??? The campsite allows two cars and six people. If that is something the two of you can do, then we will meet you at the campsite when you get there, or we can still meet up in Reedley and drop off your car when you get there. That will make 5 in the car for about an hour or so. Just food for thought.

Since the start of this hike is going to be quite hot, an early start time is suggested. One we hit Upper Paradise Valley the bugs and heat shoud subside. Please bring a headnet, the little nats are terrible..speaking from experience there.

Adan, Jack is coming from Bakersfield and it is one your way. FYI

Ken,

I'm all for an early start on Thursday as that will give more time for swimming! The photo below was taken in Lower Paradise Valley in early August of 2005, I can't wait to get back!

Jack is a stand-up guy. At Point Reyes he warned everyone about his snoring and provided earplugs to anyone who wanted them. That said, even with the earplugs, I still moved my tent.

I was passed out and snoring maybe as loud as Jack…..never heard him

I remember that night, very funny when Casey and Emily relocated….I thought "Who's leaving in the middle of the night?".

Leaving wed at 5 from Scotts Valley sounds good. I am not worried about the snoring. ;)

Adan you can meet me at my house in Bakersfield and leave your car there, or we can take your car. I have a 08 1/2 ton Chevy pickup the gas milage isn't that great, but I don't mind taking it. Ken if we meet at the camp ground you guys will have to pay the park entrance fee. Adan I will be off work on that thus. at 6:00 p.m. let me know if you want to car pool. BY THE WAY I'VE NEVER HEARD MYSELF SNOR!zzzzzzzzzz I don't know what everyone is talking about.

PostedJul 15, 2010 at 4:51 pm

Casey,

This works out really well. I'll meet you at the 12th Street BART station at 3:30. I'm sending you a PM with my mobil number so we can communicate easily.

Ken Helwig BPL Member

No probs on the park fee Jack. I will email you the camp information and we will be waiting for you guys with a nice fire and a couple of cold ones. Nice to see this trip fill out!!!

People tell me my snoring is bad, I always say, well I didn't hear anything

I know what Ken is bringing for a shelter what is everybody else bringing. I can't decide betweeen my Moment or the new tarp and bivy I bought. What about you Kat, are you bringing the Sil Lite?

Ken Helwig BPL Member

Nemo GoGo Bivy
ULA CDT
Western Mountaineering Ultralight
Soto cannister stove
GSI Huatelite
Big Agnes Clearview
Bear Boxer
and maybe my Spot if I can activate it in time. I want to try this out and see how it does

my BPL thread notifications arent working again. I'll just monitor this thread myself from now on.

Jack, meeting in Bakersfield sounds great, thanks! I dont mind driving at all but my little car is awful cranky these days. Its gettin time to take it out in the back and put er down. If you drive I can pay the gas, I dont mind if your truck is not UL.

I'm sleeping in my Golite Ultra20 under an 8×10 tarp. I'll bring my bivy also in case. I need to find a cheap bug net for my face while hiking and sleeping, any ideas? Maybe REI has one.
