Seems like many are missing the top end 30-35 pound thing. He's not talking the 20-25 comfort range most people find w/frameless packs! If my trips start out north of 30#s right now, it's because of food; my base is around 10#, but carrying a lot of food (& some water). I wouldn't carry a UL frameless pack for 30#+ loads. But maybe I'm just not masochistic enough for y'all.

OP How about a gear list? Let's see what you are carrying, with how many days food so we can see what size you need.

tried on some packs today. want a pack that is comfortable at 30-35 and below and carry a neo air so was leaning towards a framed pack…the ula catalyst or a granite gear…just tried on the granite gear packs and fell in love. fits my non athletic frame perfectly. i'm thinking a nimbus meridian will be my go to bag for longer treks. thanks!

ULA Circuit or Catalyst will handle 35+lb loads. For light load trips, you can remove the alum. stays to reduce weight.
GG Nimbus Ozone or Meridian, would probably be a better choice for you.
I've carried 40+ lbs with my Ozone, but probably 32lbs max with my Circuit and approx. 38lbs with my Catalyst, but this was an older model Catalyst, before they went to the dual stays.

Granite Gear packs are known for their combination of reasonably light weight and high level of carrying comfort.

Seven years ago when I started backpacking, the GG Vapor Trail was on my final list for its superb comfort and fit. But I just didn't like its "low usability" (subjective) — esp. their idiotic side-pocket design that precludes users from accessing/putting back water bottles — you gotta either take off the pack or ask your buddy to take out or put back the water bottle for you each and every time!

I haven't visited their site lately, but I understand they have finally redesigned the side pockets on some of their models.

I find the Granite Gear packs among the most uncomfortable things I've ever had on my back. All that squishy foam is HOT, HOT, HOT…and sweaty. I can wear it for about 30 minutes, then I'd rather have a root canal.

As always, YMMV.

three pounds with a lid.

the new suspension says this:

Air Current suspension features a 3-dimensional molded framesheet and foam pad that fits the contours of your back and is engineered to flex with your movements

Integrated air channels help create a cool and dry carrying experience by allowing air to circulate between your back and the pack's back panel

Everyone is different. To me, the Exos 46/58 were more painful to wear than any root canal. They seem to work wonders for other people though.

Add my vote for the smd traveler. Sure the starlite is the same. Very comfortable pack to me
