Hi All –
Been sharing a water filter with a friend and found out we both need it in different locations this weekend. So I'm in a crunch to find a filter for this weekend and would prefer not to have to buy one of those $150 2-pound beasties from the local outfitter. Does anyone know of a brick and mortar chain that tends to carry the Aquamira Frontier Pro's?

Sports Chalet carries them.
Thanks – I should mention I'm in Northeast Ohio and will be traveling to PA. There's no Sports Chalet's near me :(
Yellow pages time
I also live in NE Ohio, and you probably already know about these, but you can check out the Backpacker's Shop in Avon or Appalachian Outfitters in Peninsula – call first to see if they carry them. These are the two best that I know of up in this neck of the woods. There are a couple others in Columbus. Pittsburgh is the nearest REI, Wheeling or up near Toledo for the nearest Cabella's (although I don't know if they carry them), and then you have your various Dick's and Gander Mtns… Might be worth doing overnight shipping from an online store… Hope that helps…
Ken you may be right…
Charles – Appy outfitters said no, REI doesn't carry them, neither does Dick's or cabela's or gander mtn (neither online or in store). No's also from wally world and target. I haven't tried the backpacker's shop – might give that a go. and then it's off to calling the surplus/survivalist stores.
thanks for the help guys!
FYI you may find the Saywer filter/bottle at Wal-Mart. It can be used in the bottle, inline with a platy or in a gravity system. You may be able to get a Frontier Pro at amazon before the weekend especially if you sign up for the Amazon Prime free trial.
Check your PM Kieran :)
Or you can probably find purification tablets at just about any sporting goods store. Even if you don't like them you could survive a trip that way on the cheap.
Bender do you know if they sell just the filter part of that sawyer system at wal mart?
Larry that would work, but the Mrs is coming on this trip, and she's particular about particulate.
They only have it with the bottle. The walmart bottle version has the same .1 micron filter for less $ than you can buy the filter alone for. Most walmarts in NEO have this in stock. I have used my sawyer inline with a platypus and the flow is reasonable. I now have it setup in gravity mode so I can use drink mix. If you have a platypus or camelback the sawyer will fit the drink tube without modifications.
I would use the Frontier Pro with Katadyn tablets due to its large pore size. It does have the advantage of having carbon to reduce funky tastes.
Got it – I'll keep that in mind for the future.
Thanks for the amazon prime tip though – that'll do it! Free 2 day shipping means it'll be here by thursday, and then I can cancel the prime subscription.
