I made my own Dirty girl gaiters.

Homemade Dirty Girls

I think it's just bathing suit fabric. I bought the fabric from a store that sells leftover waste from local industrial companies. It was a good beginner sewing project.

I made the pattern by tracing my worn out pair of Dirty Girls on some tissue paper. I added a half inch around the edges. I think I didn't sew the seams quite at half an inch so the gaiters ended up a tad large for me.

I used a zig-zag stitch because I don't have an overlock machine. The zig-zag works great.

I wanna try some too!
Could you post a photo of the pattern YOU MADE maybe?

Cheers

I vote against the posting of a pattern of a commercial product. I don't think it's fair. Plus, these are very easily made without a pattern!

I also make my own. I do it because I want them made out of a more durable fabric than she supplies. Anyone know where to buy similar hooks? I've just been recycling old ones…

It's real easy to just trace them to make the pattern. But if you don't have a pair already, they basically wrap around the back and the seam is down the front.

I recycled the hooks from the old pair.

The hard part was the triangular tab where the hook joins. I used some old webbing that I cut off from something. It didn't come out quite as professional as the original product, but they aren't going to break, that's for sure.

+1 with Jack. At least buy one pair. Then you could make a lifetime supply for yourself.

Piper,

Nice work! I'm trying to talk my wife and son's girl friend into giving a pair a shot as I am writing this post. They have been sewing today so I showed them your post and the Dirty Girls web site. Looks like a big no way. I will not give up. I know they will help if I make my own feeble attempt to sew.

Thanks for the inspiration.

And I don't think Dirty Girls cares if a few of us make ourselves a pair. I did not see a patent. Besides: "All sales proceeds are thrown right back into the dirt and donated to ultra-running events, trail-building, search and rescue, parks, and women's health and empowerment projects, breast cancer research, and youth athletics"

I pledge to make a similar donations if I do manage to produce a pair or two.

Another vote for Dirty Girl's because the price is $15. Not bad for a pair of colorful gaiters that actually work with low cuts. Plus, they do not overheat the feet.
Another that works and has a slightly more rugged material is the Simblissity Gaiters, "lava Gaiters:

Making your own custom to your shoe size is fine, too!
