Hated the lid and the locking mechanism. Sold it and got a BV 450. Don't have the problem here yet of bears getting into them. Much more livable canister. Small hit on weight and size. But overall I'm happier. Certainly much easier to pack with that huge opening.

Plenty of room in either of the packs you mentioned. I use an Ohm.

Hate the Bear Vault. The lid and the body swell and shrink at different rates, leaving one screaming in frustration on frozen mornings. By the time I no longer needed a flake of granite to get past the tabs, the lid just spun off without a hitch necessitating a new lid so the bears couldn't get in. (At least the guy sent one without asking for money.)

The Bare Boxer is just the right size for short trips, fits in packs without straining seams, and who cares about the locking mechanism? That's what a key/knife/end of a spork can do for me. The Bearikade is better for trips with the boyfriend and dog, since he tends to slack pack and doesn't "get" how to pack a bear can.

^Rants about issues with locking mechanism. Immediately after states "who cares about the locking mechanism? That's what a key/knife/end of a spork can do for me"

Interesting.

Just picked one of these up from Gossamer Gear. 25.7 ounces on my scale. Nice size and easy to open.
