I just weighed a beta test model hammock, stuff sack and suspension setup and and it came out to 5.75oz. I ditched the carabiners so I could drop an additional 2 oz..
The hammock is the same size as is in the photo at 9' long x 52" wide.. The suspension is a 12' long piece of 7/64" Amsteel Blue with a figure 8 loop at one end and stopper knots tied every 12" down the length of the cord. The hammock also has a piece of 7/64" Amsteel Blue that runs through the channel and attaches to the the stopper knot suspension using a cow's hitch. I layed in the new system for a few hours today with no sign of slipping. I chose this setup over a whoopie sling because this allows a direct connection to the tree. Though bark damage could occur, no sign of damage was present on the two pine trees I used today.
I have been thinking of reducing the size of the hammock to 8' long and 48" wide to get it under the 5oz mark. Maybe doing a regular size hammock at 8'x48" at 5oz and a long at 9.5'x52" 6oz… What do you think of sizing and the suspension????
I forgot my camera today so I had to take pictures in my shop tonight..
