I'd love to see the Burn in cuben! Ron? ;-)
I prefer the side pockets as they now exist on the Burn. I will often run sections or stretches of trail and the pockets securely hold all items stored, including full water bottles.
Thanks for all the good feedback.
We did add more bartacks to the shoulder straps.
Side pocket height and slant is a tough one – everyone likes it different ways. * Taller and less slant like we do as stock on all our packs = more security for a wide range of bottles and bladders.
* Shorter and more slanted can not securely hold many bottles over 24oz. But *some* folks can pull it out while wearing. -Fewer can fit it back in. everyone is different.
We can make any pack custom with shorter and more slanted side pockets- same price too- but a little longer wait and non-returnable.
Thanks to folks noticing the nice little bungee hooks. I've now only seen those on a few of the very BIG name packs before – we had to order 10,000 of them in a bulk purchase but they we so convenient and lightweight we went for it- ditto on the nice black slim whistle lock sternum straps. We are always trying to push the quality with your feedback – the innovation.
Thanks,
Ron
Persistent aren’t you Doug :)
I'm going to have to second Thom on the taller side pockets, I like being able to hike fast and not worry about losing items on the trail, plus they work as a better storage solution for those that utilize the side pockets for windshells, shelters, food, etc.
Can anyone besides a contortionist actually reach back and grab bottles from pack side pockets? I must have horrible flexibility cause I can't even reach back and touch side pockets on packs without looking like a dog chasing it's own tail.
As far as a cuben Burn? I personally think cuben is hideous for packs, besides tarps the aesthetic just doesn't strike my fancy. But that's just one man's opinion.

"As far as a cuben Burn? I personally think cuben is hideous for packs, besides tarps the aesthetic just doesn't strike my fancy."
I'm a function over form kinda guy, which you'd know if you ever saw the way I dress….
I loved the Revelation when I had it (and have it again), and am really looking forward to the Prophet/Burn in cuben when they come out! Carries well, light as all get out, and takes the color of whatever is inside the pack!
Perhaps as my desire to shave a few more ounces out of my gear increases as will my desire or fondness for cuben… for now Dyneema strikes that balance of everything I like in a material for a pack. When is the cuben Burn supposed to be available? That's going to be a pricey little pack.
While I do really like cuben, I find a pack as light as the burn works great in dyneema. Durable as it gets without worry for bushwacking but still ~10oz…
Tough to beat.
"When is the cuben Burn supposed to be available?"
I was hoping, of course, by now! Sigh. But I'm a patient guy! And a terrible liar……
If anyone wants to sell me their Dyneema burn when the Cuben one comes out let me know! (long torso)
;-)
Any new cuben packs would need to be after we catch up a bit more. We've at 5.5 weeks now and hope to be at 4 week in one more week.
Note that in a burn using a 1.7oz sq/yd cuben and ALL the same features would be about 8oz- a 2 oz saving at most.
Cuben lighter than about 1.5- 1.7 need more reinforcements, etc and labor techniques to keep it fairly strong.
Hardware and padding on a small pack is about 35% of the total weight and that does not change unless features are cut.
What features would you want cut?
Thanks,
Ron
Ron can I just get some MLD tags and would you mind if I sewed them on some of my clothes?
"What features would you want cut?"
Hmmmm. Don't know, really. I actually realize that there's very little savings in a cuben pack that small. Can't tell you why I want it, just one of those things! ;-)
I could do with less padding in the shoulder straps, no bungie cord on the sides (and no loops for that bungie cord on the sides), and no ice axe loops.
But I'd want everything else.
Might not be worth it to you to make such a pack, I'd understand that. In fact, I probably already have a good enough cuben pack with the Revelation!
has any one received their Burn from the last round of production (last week-ish)?
Still waiting on mine. Can't wait.
oh the suspense!!
The Revelation revived seems like the ticket to me.
From that last batch that was talked about a couple weeks ago? I"m at just about week 7 right now…
I'm at week 7 and 3 days. Patience is a virtue so they say. :D
you are very right….but from previous posts and what I saw on the MLD FB page i had (or so i thought) the understanding that the orders were down to 5 weeks? maybe i dont understand that right…oh well…fingers crossed for the long weekend.
Yeah I had read that also. Down to 5 weeks and soon down to 4 they had hopped. I don't follow either. I'll cross my fingers too.
as someone previously noted, it's reminiscent of a modded Ion- albeit the Burn is much more refined :)
the dimensions are pretty close too Burn 9.75 x 5.5 x 26; my Ion (L) 9.5 x 5.75 x 22
volume listed are also pretty close
I really like the trick bungee setup- very nice
the fact that you can get Ron to "tune" it to your liking is a giant plus!
it's definitely on my "keep an eye out" list :)
Mike
Hi Justin,
Your's shipped today! The various custom mods slowed it a little bit in the run of regular Burns.
Zach- your's shipped too!
Except for a couple of custom tweaks for packs we're working on this week- packs are at about 4 -5 weeks and most other major items at about 4 weeks.
Most any other listed stock item that is under about $100 are in stock and ship within a week.
Many Thanks,
Ron
