Dual-purpose bottle

I'm thinking I'd like to get a bottle in the ~20 oz./600ml range that would serve as:

1. My mug, for brewing/sipping coffee/tea. (I use an MSR Mugmate coffee filter; so the lid of the bottle should be neither too small, nor too big, for the coffee filter.)

2. I'd like to put boiling water in it at night, to put in between my feet. Therefore, it needs to have a bombproof, secure, leakproof lid.

(3. Its third purpose would be to increase my water-carrying capacity during the daytime, should I ever need to.)

I've actually found some bottles that look like they might work…but am confused about

(a) What material I should go for: BPA-free plastic? Stainless steel? Aluminum? Titanium? How do they hold up to boiling water?

(b) How insulated the bottle should be.

More insulation usually = higher weight. So one option would be to get a lighter bottle and fit it with a one-ounce cozy (or use a sock).

Anyone using a bottle for both purposes?

Forgot to mention that I'd like my coffee or tea to *taste good* in the selected bottle. I've heard that the bottle/mug material can affect the taste.

I have not noticed the bottle effecting a change on taste at all. My bottle is 4-5 years old, still fresh tasting unlike softer plastics.

Same here.
If your filter fits into a "plastic" bottle (like that Nalgene) that is what I would use .
Providing that it works with your point 1, it will work with 2 and 3.
(I have seen the MSR filter but I do not know the exact size…)
A fully insulated container is not going to help you with point 2.
I cannot detect any taste with that type of plastic, neither before nor after the BPA "free" mods.
(But I can with most other types, including the famous " freezing bags"
Oh, yes I would also use a sock or wrap a bandanna or something like that and shove it inside a stuff sack(like the one from your sleeping bag)
