David,

Any tent I'd use for mountaineering would have at least 3 poles for stability in mountain wind storms.

The wedge idea is only OK (IMHO) with a 3rd bracing pole running laterally/diagonaly to intercept the two other poles. Even then I'd prefer a dome-style design.

As you can see from my post above I do speak from experience on this design.

they work fine, not for mountaineering – MHW Trangos are for that. For actually climbing the I-Tent, ID Mk2, Firstlite, Rab Summit Extreme are really great. That said I'm sure people who mountaineer are much safer then those who alpine climb. There is no need for a cross pole, the lip at the top of the door on the I-tent provides enough shelter to keep the top of the door open as you brew up
Having used all of the above tents I'd say all are fine for the mountains.

Check out the two reviews on Backcountry.com for the new Firstlight. I was interested in it also, but they both had very bad experiences with the new fabric in the rain. I was very surprised when I read this considering this is after all a Black Diamond product. I bought the new Micronight bivy when it first came out a few months ago from Basegear. Yes Basegear is super fast. I have only used it once, but my initial impressions were good, and I will keep using it when I get back out.

Really. Well I will tell ID and Bibler that they did not know what they were doing when they first designed their two pole cross design I-tent and MK series 25 plus years ago. Can't believe they keep selling them.
