My 2ND backpacking trip with my girlfriend soon to be wife. My pack is on the left,a Jansport at 5,500Ci. I brought everything and the kitchen sink too! It was maybe 60+ LBS. Thank goodness for Beyond Backpacking by Ray Jardine.
Look at our knees and backs- they are buckling under the weight.Feb 2, 2010 at 11:00 am #1568897Cool!!
Feb 2, 2010 at 12:01 pm #1568920I know it may not seem like huge heavy packs… but between the two of us we must have been sporting over 110 lbs of gear! I am ashamed to say it… but we had a winter mountaineering tent in the middle of summer that we wanted to try out!

Henry Coe St Park in August 1999 with a 65 pound pack.
What was I thinking?Feb 2, 2010 at 9:16 pm #1569166Off to a bad finish. There is about 35 pounds on each one of us, plus the 65 pound packs.

Feb 19, 2010 at 2:00 pm #1575986This is before my first overnight /thru-hike on the AT in 2003: 50+ pack weight. So young and innocent. I cut that down to around 20 by Katahdin, then around 10 after BPL on my next thru in 2008.
