    I just received these today:

    http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/mil-spec-plus-crampons.aspx?a=588814

they are MIL-Spec crampons. One size fits most. They fit my size 10 trail runners and my bulkier wider size 10 winter boots with no problem. Im very happy with them so far -just from seeing them and trying them on- can't go wrong for 20 bucks!

Sure, that's what Divine Brown said to Hugh Grant, and then look what happened!

How do they go on? Is that gray stuff elastic or something?

It looks like they work just like the Microspikes, where the gray is an elastic rubber that stretches over your shoes.

Yes, they work just like Microspikes. Just slip the front end over your toes and pull the back over your heels. The velcro strap doesn't seem necessary.

Sad to see a full on rip off. OTOH I wouldn't surprised if they fail first year of use though – the chains and spikes do not look as good as the real thing in the photo. Could be wrong on that but the chains I wouldn't want failing!

For comparison my size medium Microspikes weigh 12.45oz.

Theses are military surplus and I highly suspect that the same company makes both. Lots of design elements and hardware pieces are identical. The chains look a little more robust on the Microspikes but I have a hard time imagining them breaking, only time will tell. Easy enough fix if they do.

Mil-Specs: 8 points in front, 4 points in heel
weight about 18 oz. ( sorry kitchen spring scale)

Microspikes: 6 points in front 2 in heel
    weight: sm 9.8- L-14.4 ( as listed )

in price there is no comparison though.
