Hi Derek,

>Most of the difference in weight is now the weight of the heat exchanger pot. The lightest winter stove is probably a primus eta packlite with an ordinary pot for short trips that dont melt snow, and take the heat exchanger pot for snow melting and longer trips

Thanks for doing the math, I think your conclusions are correct.

Thank you Derek,
Your calculations make it a clear winner for my requirements. Now, if I only could find it in a Canadian store… They all cary the Jetboils and the other Primus stoves but not the Packlite.

In any case, thank you all for the contributions.
Cheers

Hi Pierre

Do what the rest of us do – buy it from a web shop. It will very likely end up cheaper.

Cheers

I think we have persuaded me to buy a packlite. I was holding off because Roger mentioned some niggles that need solving with a new version. Have you published these problems Roger?

It'd be heavy, but if you wanted a remote Reactor you could just use the Brunton stove stand… adds ~150g/5.4oz stock weight, but you can modify it a bit, too…

Remember not to melt snow inside your tent. You will fill it with condensation.

Hi
Can you use the packlite with an inverted cartridge?
The stove looks great, but when cold it would worry me using it with the cartridge upright.

Melting snow will not cause condensation, but heating the resulting water will. This can be minimized by ventilating as much as you can when cooking, and then button up once you are done.
