This is a front page deal at slickdeals.net…

Deekins.com has a variety of magazines on sale, including Backpacker. In order to get the $3.99 1-Year rate, use the promotional code “junbp” during checkout.

I'm not that big of a fan of Backpacker, but for 4 bucks I would say its worth it.

Dang it….foiled again because I'm a Canadian. Most of the sick deals never work. It's bad enough I have to pay more money for gear (with the exchange rate), more for shipping and then ridiculous duty charges.

Thanks for the tip. I usually wind up buying at least one of the magazines a year because something peaks my interest. At $3.99 it's the same cost.

Like Jared said, something in each of the magazines will not always catch my eyes, but there is usually always 2 out of the 9 that has something I would like to read about. As far as the rest are concerned, well at least ill have something to read when I have to drop a load in the bathroom. The thing I love most about it is the fact that you can pay with paypal. That way I dont have to stay on top of constantly having to remember to cancel my subscription because there is no way they can automatcially charge me a renewal fee, at least I hope I am right about this, am I? God knows that I hate having to remember to cancel subscriptions a year after the fact. Thanks a lot!

Awesome!

I don't read Backpacker much anymore, but for $3.99 for a year's subscription, it's definitely worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing this deal.

Agreed, it's worth it if one is normally intersted in a handful of articles each year. However, I am a bit put off by the lack of an online or electronic version. It's becoming pretty commonplace with the subscriptions to offer some non-paper alternative. Hell, I even get The Economist in an audio version.

FWIW, I sent them an email letting them know I'm interested in subscribing, but only if such an option is offered.

edit: to clarify, I emailed backpacker mag, not deekins :-)

You need to put the promo code in at the checkout to get the special price. It appears to still be working.

Perhaps reading all the instructions would be a benefit!

WooHoo!!! It worked just fine with the code.

Actually, they can do a auto-renewal with paypal. I ran into this problem a year or so ago. There is a way to check in paypal to see if you have any auto-renewals setup….else you find out when they take out your money next time.

Just tried this yesterday 7/29 and it is still good. Thanks!

Once, via form letter, backpacker magazine threatened legal action over a trial subscription.

If I were a nervous fellow, I may not have waited for this 3.99 tag and just given them their 24 dollars.

Thank the gods we're not suckers!

Is this a legitimate offer? My browser says there's a security problem with their site certificate. Could this be a scam?
