I hear that "Douche" available at a drug store is a good solution to get rid of mildewy smell. Have not tested this myself. If you try it please let us know if it works. I have a few pieces of stinky gear.

Diluting vinegar in some water should be just as effective, and far less embarrassing to purchase.

Since this material is nylon that is 'impregnated' with silicone, is there any chance that cleaning methods would cause the silicon to separate from the weave?

Try McNett's Myrazyme. It's an enzyme, not a chemical, and won't damage the fabric but really works for getting rid of mildew odor. Or any other odor for that matter (shoes,etc.).

McNett's Myrazyme works great and neutralizes the "mildewy" smell. However, if I remember correctly, it only removes/neutralizes the smell, but does not remove the stain(s) left from mildew (if they've occurred).

I've washed mine in a front loading washer with regular detergent, cold water and some borax. Worked great.
