It's an interesting little stove. I had one, used it once I think, then just went to alcohol/esbit and sold it on Gear Swap. I didn't 'test' it or anything, but did think it worked well enough. FWIW.
Which lightweight canister stove is the best blend of above?
"Which lightweight canister stove is the best blend of above?"
Vargo TI Jet
Lowest CO2, fast boil, under 3oz, great, strong pot supports.
> Which lightweight canister stove is the best blend of above?
Ignoring my own MYOG, then for an upright I still think GST-100, followed by Vargo Jet-Ti.
Cheers
Anyone know where there's an article on BPL or elsewhere listing the boil times of the Vargo TI Jet and GST-100?
Roger I remember now that you had recommended the GST-100. Thanks for the reminder.
And David going back in the thread saw your post on low CO emissions of the Vargo Jet Ti.
It's always interesting to see a "new old" thread again.

They seem to like it, and I admit I am tempted… but maybe I'm just a sucker for marketing!<
Jerry Goller of BGT has reported in other forums getting some pretty amazing efficiency figures with the soto running at a medium setting.
Hi EJ – Roger did an excellent job here:

This article is one of the reasons I own the TI Jet….

Specifically Jerry noted he found that the soto could consistently bring 2 cups of 50F water to 200F in about 7 minutes on 4 grams of fuel.
I don't have any personal experience with the soto other than looking at it in the store. I am still quite happy with the Snowpeak GigiPower canister stove when cooking for multiple people, and the UL Caldera for my solo trips.

Roger, is the GST 100 the same stove as the Gigapower?
Mark, which Gigapower stove do you use, the GST-100? Also, which UL Caldera model do you use?
Hi Tad
Gigapower Titanium GST-100, $64.95.
Second from the top at http://www.snowpeak.com/back/stoves/ultralight.html
Mind you, the GS-100 (same page) is the same design but stainless, slightly heavier, and cheaper.
I collect them …
Cheers
Roger, I did see that on the Snow Peak website, but at REI, and other stores they are selling the same stove under the name Gigapower
http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Peak-GigaPower-Titanium-Ignition/dp/B000RT1PUI/ref=sr_1_40?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1267249363&sr=8-40
I thought they were the same, and only the names where changed to protect {confuse} the innocent.
Are they truly the same stove?
Hi Tad
Yep, that's it at REI.
Buy two while you are at it.
Cheers
PS: biased, yes, but by measurements. No vested interest.
Gigapower model? I think it's the steel GS-100. My original stove was that. The second might have been the titanium model, I don't remember and it's loaned out this weekend so I can't look at it.
I am using the UL Caldera made for the MLD 850 mug/pot. Typically using the gram cracker esbits stove.

Tad, further disclarification: Snow Peak pretty much calls anything that puts out heat a Gigapower. Doesn't matter if it's one of their canister stoves, one of their white gas stoves, or their lanterns. They're all Gigapowers. Can't pay attention to that part of the name; the important part usually follows.
On your link, for example, the part that follows is Titanium Manual. The standard stove is just referred to as the Gigapower stove, manual (or auto). The white gas stoves say Gigapower WG stove. On the canister models you can get an idea by looking at the product number if they don't give you a name: GS, of course, is Gigapower stove. If they add a "T" to that, it means Titanium. If the number they list is followed by an A, that means it's an Auto-ignitor/piezo. It's not foolproof, but it gets y'all heading in the right direction…
Thanks Mark, looked it up. Nice very light setup.
Starting a thread for feedback on our stoves and cookware for 3 season and winter – appreciate any suggestions for improvement.

can anyone remark on the brunton talon?
http://www.rei.com/product/793995
on sale for $25. Listed at 3 oz. Seems like a snow peak copy…
I am seeing it listed at 3 oz. some places, and 3.7 oz. at other sites.
I wouldn't say a copy, not even a knock off, just a bad look alike.
No, it's not a Snow Peak copy at all. It's a Chinese stove, probably made by Fire Maple. Not tested so I don't know the CO emission or power rating.
Cheers
That $10 stove looks like a Pocket Rocket, but I have a feeling that there is something hidden beneath the surface.

The Real MSR PocketRocket:

The $10 knockoff:

Any MSR PR owner want to buy one and report back? :)
definitely a bad look alike.
