It's look like it will be sunny and dry…in which case, you should go with the small tarp. Though that could change!

Hey Nathan,, Do you know where the campsite is? Is it Coit Lake or somewhere else? Are you and Tony Wong going to clime some out-cropping?

Coit Lake, I believe is the campsite for Saturday night. I won't be able to get there til Friday, so unfortunately not enough time to get to Rooster's Comb….but if the weather is anything like it was yesterday, it is going to be gorgeous! Looking like sleeping under the stars may be an option. I also got some really small UL cards, so may bust those out if anyone wants to play gin rummy while sipping on their whiskey.

You're right. Sorry for the Disinfo. The two have become mingled somewhere in my brain and I always have to find this one weird post on page 2 of a particular thread to figure it out…..

Right — Kelly Lake was chosen because it is closer.

Coit Lake is not that far away, so some may want to hike on over there to see it, swim in it, etc.

Thanks Jay. I thought that might be a Spinntwin.

Just out of curiosity, do you know how the Spinntwinn compares to the MLD Grace Duo? They seem pretty similar. I don't believe that the MLD tarps have like the Spinntwin, but I think they have more tieouts.

Are we going to coordinate anything on stoves? Just curious, but no one responded to the question in the other thread….I'm gonna bring a box of wine since Cary was so gracious as to lug one last time.

Uh Oh, Don't let Dave T find out this topic has now drifted into "Hiking Partners and Trip Announcements". There'll be gunfire for sure ;)

To those who wonder why the G-Spot seems to have gone downhill, it seems to me it's because there is a lack of stimulating new UL gear to discuss. Sad I know.

Coit Lake has a better campsite a big bench and outhouse and possibly better fishing.

my 3 cents

Jay,

Fine by me, if you can get the others on board. I suggested Kelly Lake simply because it was closer to the trail head, and that seemed to be a design goal.

As I noted, some time back, in the original thread:

"Alternatives are Coit Lake (not a lot longer) and Pacheco Falls (noticeably longer, because of a considerable descent to the falls, and then climb back up the next day). According to Lee Dittman (I think) Coit Lake has the best swimming in the park :)"

I note that the park map has a horse camp at Coit Lake, but not Kelly Lake — is that likely to be anything to take into account? Also, the park map shows two outhouses and the horse camp — are you suggesting camping near one of those three, or somewhere else?

If we do go to Coit Lake, we would go right by Kelly Lake on the way back if we want to take the route back that I suggested.

Anyone who has a preference should speak up. Since we are not all hiking in together, we do need to decide ahead of time where to meet up.

BTW: is anyone but me planning to arrive Fri and head in at least a little ways? If so, do we want to sync up — my hours are flexible, so I am still deciding what time to go on Fri, and how much walking to do.

I would prefer Coit lake, but don't want to push others who can't do the hike on Friday if it's too far. So count me as a Coit lake but flexible to keep it at Kelly.

> Are we going to coordinate anything on stoves?

Just what did you have in mind? I had assumed people would bring things like alcohol stoves, which seem to me to be pretty individual items.

kelly is already the upper threshold for distance for me; if everyone else wants coit, go ahead though & i'll just take a pass on this one

P3070143P3080148P3070142 (2)I went to Coit Lake last March– It took about 4 hrs to get there with a few breaks–I am not sure but I think it was about 9 miles. Coit Lake has large flat area with a bench, restroom with paper–plenty of room for tents. I am easy–I am just happy to be backpacking in March..I am for the greater good of the groupP3080149
