The fly is 4" away at the ends, on the sides is from 4" to 6" at the hoop pole.

Thanks Franco, very helpful. For that size a gap, I definitely want a way to close it up when needed. 4-6 in. silnylon (or less if we allow for burying the pole tips a bit) + stitching shouldn't add too much weight. Just need to stitch strong so that it won't fray in the wind with a taut pitch (noting of course silnylon's limits).
With this mod, the tent will be super versatile for us. Will post pics. For now, waiting for Henry to start shipping!
Franco, since you have the Scarp 1, at what intervals along the sides would you place velcro or guyline loops to hold up the fly "skirt." How many per side? 2 or 3?
EJ
I have no experience with that whatsoever, when I run that vision of a Velcro attached "skirt" through my mind I see the panels flying away to distant horizons.
Franco
The skirt will be sewn directly to the bottom edges of the fly to make an extended fly. Small velcro tabs or rope loops will be used to keep the bottom of the fly up most of the time for ventilation.
No fly flying away…
Yes, now putting the comments together I see what you mean.
I did think of that sometime ago when the comments about the gap started .
You would need six separate panels (to avoid the guylines) so one strip of Velcro at the bottom of the existing corner ( going around the corner) , one at the base of the door and one in the middle of each panel, 14 in total. Without the mid strip could be a bit too messy to roll up.
Franco
Franco, are you sure I'd need 6 separate panels? It doesn't matter if in a few points (like corners or a few guylines) the fly doesn't fold neatly up along the same line all around – you'll still have excellent ventilation.
It will be much easier for me to plan out when I can actually pitch one.
In the end we had to give up on our Scarp 2 extended fly mod because it would be way too expensive, and went with a Big Sky International Revolution 3P Porch which we're happy with. However, I've been keeping my eyes open for a solo 4 season tent, and wondering – now that Martin Rye posted pictures of a new Scarp 1 Henry is working on, with an extended fly and other improvements, how do you feel about the Akto and similar solo 4 season tents versus the improved Scarp 1 now?
After camping out in my Moment this week (see my thread) I visited Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder, Co and saw the "eyebrow" stiffened semicircle of fabric the newer Aktos have at the top of the zippered door to keep out drips when the door is fully opened. That may be something I'll try on my Moment – or not- and possibly on a Scarp II if I can afford one this winter.
But back to the Scarp I/Akto discussion. My vote goes to the taller Scarp I for overall design refinement and to the Akto for likely longer durability of the fly. Yeah, it's a tossup and it all depends on your expected climates for use.
