How do you use your bivi and quilt to side sleep??

thanks james – that was a great trip

my friend instead of a bachelor party wanted me to plan a trip for him & his brother. we went west to east traverse via bear creek and Italy Pass then down to Pine Creek trailhead

I havent slept in snow yet – so cant really realte to that but i can imagine that serious snow is an issue. I have slept in 20~25F in scottish highlands and it "only" rained, but then i assume the physics of rain vs snow vs temp is complex.
having said that i comletely agree – i would not take a bivi for bad weather as stand alone shelter. But in many places even if its summer or say in shoulder season when you are going out for two nights solo – the weight and flexibility benefit might outweigh discomfort. I do have a micro tarp i use, but even with that the side sleep issue is real since many times you would get cold and want to close down the hatch so to speak.
I'm actually somewhat surprised this isnt more of an issue since in the probabaly 10 times i used bivi in cold/rain i usually ended up closing it up real tight and just breathing through the small 2" hole left in drawcord.
