I found a website much better than google earth it had excellent and detailed shaded 3d for viewing online.
change a filter and the roads showed up it was excellent. My computer crashed and I lost the link! it had trails or trail in it's name as it also showed all documented trails and their mileage any info?

    The link is store.usgs.gov

Click on Map Locator link on the left beneath Advanced Search. Zoom, pan, and place pins to choose download or purchase individual quads.

the website I was using was similar to google earth 3d but had all documented trails, streets and an awesome topo feature that shaded the contours. Hopefully I can find it again.
