Basic GPS Recommendations?

The gps should be small enough to attach to your hat brim. When you want to know where you are, turn on the gps, unroll your map, press send to bluetooth the coordinates to the map and a red light shows up on your map.

The slim240 is definately small enough to go on a hat brim. Now we just need bluetooth enabled maps. Or at least a watch that can receive the bluetooth signal and convert it to UTM for the display.

If Suunto can build a watch with a GPS chip in it, I'm sure they could trade out their chip and put in a low power bluetooth module but keep much of the same firmware.

That'd let you have a more powerful wireless receiver where it would get the best signal and help the watch reduce battery draw significantly.

I beleive there are adapters that let you charge usb based devices from AAA or AA batteries and the lithium rechargable. I'm thinking something could be made like the Photon REX charger which works great in the field.

I've also been wanting to get a SiRFIII patch antenna and put it on a velcro piece that could be attached to the top of my hat or pack for times that I want the whole trip track. Shoving the GPS in my pocket really limits the signal.
