After having looked more closely at the HH site, I agree, I do think that the weight includes the tarp. But for those really light hammocks, I am simply too big. The ultralight ones, those that are less than 2 lbs, can't handle anything larger than 6' 200 lbs. Even if I were <200 lbs (I am 6'), I wouldn't want to press the limits. My experiences have taught me that the upper limits of hammocks are liberal (meaning that 5'10" or 5'11" 180 is more like the realistic maximum if one wants to be really comfy.
I might be able to save a little bit of weight by one of their otehr hammocks, but not enough to have to sleep at an angle on my back (I'm a side/stomach sleeper) so that I might have a chance of maybe getting the opportunity to have a mostly flat lie.
Also, I could very likely save a bit of weight were I to go with a smaller/lighter tarp, but my 11×10 provides me with the luxury of having ample room to sit and relax/cook outside of the hammock while still staying dry.
I'm in the midst of weighing everything, and right now I'm at about 177 ounces (a shade over 11 lbs), and I only have a few more items to weigh (extra shirt, fleece vest, my bathroom, and a few misc items and storage options – stuff sacks, plastic bags, etc). I'm thinking that after all is said and done, I can come in at <13 lbs, which would be fantastic, and still more than light enough to justify my big tarp, GPS (the tech geek in me isn't going to give that up anyway) as well as any of my other luxury items.
:)
