Good find Peter. Those are made by Terra Nova in the UK. I've broken many of these.
Another option that's more durable are the pegs by Titanium Goat. I've yet to break one of those!
Still, those Terra Novas are as light as they come!
I made some carbon fiber stakes a couple of years ago. I made them from carbon fiber arrow shafts. They cost about $20 for 10 of them. They took a while to make but they work really well. I broke one but I was trying to drive it into really packed dirt with my foot at an established campsite. I think most stakes will break if you put most of your body weight onto them anyway. I since found out that archery ranges often have short lengths of arrow shafts kicking around after they break off in the target. You might be able to get the carbon fiber for free or a couple of bucks for their efforts.
Specs, per Moontrail CS:
The Terra Nova Carbon Fibre Pegs specifications are:
5 1/4" Length
1/4" Diameter
4.5g Weight
$4 each.
> 5 1/4" Length
In bad weather on poor soil, that is too short imho.
Mine are 7 – 8 " long.
Cheers
