The weather forecast for my area this weekend has a dewpoint that is only 2-5 degrees (F) above the actual temperature. Also, the winds are forecasted to be light (10-15 mph with 20-25 mph gusts), but shifting approximately 120 degrees during the nights (ie: NNW, to NW, to W, to SW to SSW). Also, medium (.03 to .09 inches per hour) constant rain is forecast.
Questions 1: I know the dewpoint is the temperature the humidity will condense out of the air and form dew drops – but if the dewpoint is a few degrees colder than the actual temperature, does this mean that I shouldn't expect huge amounts of condensation in a single wall shelter (ie: I'd expect just the amount from breathing) ? In this case, my single wall shelter will be the outer fly of my SD lightning tent set up without the mesh inner tent – so there is about a 4" gap near the bottom for airflow, but no peak vents.
Question 2: My daughter was excited about trying tarp camping this weekend. Would a 8×10 tarp pitched as an A-frame keep 2 people sheltered from rain with light winds that shift 120 degrees through the night ? If not, will pitching it as a lean-to / wedge with triangular sides touching the ground leave enough room for the person farthest from the opening to not be rubbing against the roof all the time and wetting out their bag ?
