Didn't you buy the Hilleberg Soulo a month or so ago? Did you also buy "The One"? If so, how are they working out for you?

I called GG and you are right, coupons show up on GG newsletters every now and then. Currently, the only coupon applies to the Mariposa as you mentioned above. Alas, no coupon is available for "The One". Sigh.

I did order a customized Rainbow, but the project got delayed — and I needed a tarptent sooner. I should note that I was also seduced by the gossamer weight of "The One".

Is 'The Two' a joke? If it isn't, do you have any info about it? If it is, then stop getting my hopes up!

I really can't decide on a tarptent! I even started a thread and still I'm not exactly sure…..Lunar Duo, Refuge, Double Rainbow, Squall Classic..Ahhh! Too many choices!

Come on.. you can make a longer list that that. :-) What about the MLD SuperFly + netting. 19oz, does well in wind, fast/easy set up, and lots of room. My family has used this a few times and have enjoy it a lot. All the other shelters you have mentioned are nice as well. None of these are perfect shelters, but you won't go wrong with any of them.

Ha! I like you style Mark…I certainly could make a longer list. I was trying to narrow things down! Heck, you're the one who helped sum up my choices so well as Rainbow for pushing weather, Duo for most room, and Refuge for weight. I loved how you made it so simple for me to choose…thanks for sending me back to square one! To the MLD site I go! :)

Yee haw, Ben! Sounds like you're staying up nights scouring your brain over this one! Is it the jet lag? Hope our private messages didn't confuse you beyond redemption. And there you were calling us all gear whores! Now I think you're having a hard time deciding between who to fall in love with!

I just spent my first nights in a Six Moon Designs Refuge. Cool tent! Way more interior space than my Gossamer Gear/ Tarptent Squall Classic. And it pitches at the ground level for storms but you can raise it up for extra ventilation as well. I'm 6'1" and there was plenty of length for me- in fact, I could grow several inches and still be good to go.

No bathtub floor but the edges of the integrated floor raise up- I'm guessing it will be fine in heavy rains.

8 oz more than a One but for 1/2 pound, you get a shelter that has plenty of room for two. PLUS, it's on sale- you save $75 over the One! Definitely worth looking at closely.

Cuben fiber version on the way…I can't wait to get my hands on that!!!

Having had a chance to play with The One and see how it's designed I must say I'm duely impressed. It may come with a steep price tag but the design work going into it is top notch and the finished product is amazing. I'm eagerly waiting the field reports.

The design should scale for 2 but only time will tell if there is enough interest in a 2 person 3 season shelter that'll set you back ~$500. I know I'm really, really hoping they do go that route though. When I look at the weight of my tarp + bug mesh + footprint it comes in lighter and is a much more polished system.

I agree that the design of 'The One' scaled up for two people would be awesome. Spinnaker two person tents sound really awesome! I haven't experienced Silnylon in the rain as I'm buying my first tarptent now, but from what I've heard it can sag a bit and can be a slight pain when it gets wet. This really motivates me to seek out a tent made of spinnaker, but maybe I'm just being silly. I'm going to start a thread about this right now in fact!

Doug, give us details!! How taut is the pitch, does it work w/ any length trekking poles, how fast to set it up, you know, all the usual questions. Thanks, Mark
