pitching an MLD poncho-tarp?

I use a simple bowline for my guylines- I bring them in a couple of main lengths (about 1.5 feet and about 4 feet) and 1 or two that are extra long for the main lines. By playing with different pitches, you'll find your needs pretty quickly. But it's always good to have a few extras for lengthening lines when you want more space overhead.

I've tried a few different pitches but have settled on a modified lean-to. I stake one side to the ground. The foot end I set up as an A-frame, end up with both corners staked to the ground and use a hiking staff for the pole. At the head I set it up lean to style.

The affords a lot of protection from blowing wind and leaves me room enough to sit up if desired. In this pitch I use 2 ~6' guylines that I minibiner clip in, and 6 stakes. I carry an extra guyline and a couple extra stakes in case I need to add more strength against wind.

Here is a shot of my MLD Poncho tarp tied between two trees. The purple poncho tarp was a Sea to Summit model that flapped all night in the wind. You can see the tight pitch of the MLD model (gray) which created a very stable and quiet set-up.

We sat out a storm the day before and I was able to create an "awning" by tying the center line to a trekking pole. (not pictured, sorry.)
