What's the unique deal for BPL members?

I have been a member of this site from almost the beginning. I'm just letting the community know that we are doing our sale a week before Black Friday (and maybe causing others to start theirs a little early) :). Interestingly enough, 99% of the "Gear Deals" posted here do NOT have a BPL member specific offer.

Last part of the Gear Deals rules "On the other hand, if you are reporting on what could be a good deal you have seen somewhere else, not connected in any way to you, that is usually OK."

I don't see it as a loophole, I see it as a very reasonable balance given the overall intention. If you are a vendor then it needs to be a special deal, because you are advertising. If you are not a vendor and want to share some info about a deal that another member might find of benefit then you are being helpful. And yes, a vendor can claim that their advertising also is potentially "helpful" to members, and maybe it is, but the fact that you have a vested interest in spreading the information is the overriding factor. That's the distinction, it make perfect sense to me, and I don't understand why it's so confusing to so many people. It is not supposed to be an advertising thread, if you want to advertise then you have to make it particularly helpful to BPL members. George, I'm not trying to diss you, I do believe you're posting with the right intentions, the problem is where does it stop? If this becomes a dumping ground for an onslaught of advertisements then helpful member-to-member posts would be drowned out.

Sure. George is not playing by the new rules. It is just that a lot don't agree with them. But that is a whole other can of worms… But if I had posted this instead of George all would be fine. An easy loophole.
