I recently saw a full-page ad in a Backpacking magazine featuring the Kovea Spider stove. In the ad it showed a gas canister sitting inverted on a plastic tripod. I've never run across or seen one of these tripods so perhaps it's something that has just come out. With winter getting here it sure would be nice to pick up one of those up so as to keep the canister out of the snow. Does anyone know where they can be purchased? Here is a copy of the ad and you can see the tripod in it:
Thanks in advance for your help!

I suspect it is a proprietary design that just works/fits/snaps on with the Kovea remote valve assembly. I would think you can't buy it separately… unless maybe go to their web site and see if the sell single parts. Otherwise, I would think you would have to buy the stove to get the tripod. Billy
Other thread. here Look more closely at the ad Billy, says not included with stove.
I also would like one of these. MSR uses something similar with their Whisperlite Universal and Windpro II stoves. I have sent them an email asking about availability of the stands. I'll post the info here when they reply. FYI, when I got my Kovea last year, I had seen a comment from someone (BPL website?) talking about using the wire clips from spring-type binder clips to support inverted canisters. I tried this and found it lightweight and effective but finickier than I want and easy to lose.
"Look more closely at the ad Billy, says not included with stove." My poor ole lap top screen does not show that clear enough to read…
Adds weight. I just lean the canister up between my joggers. Works just as well, adds zero weight. cheers
I received a most prompt and helpful email reply from MSR. I believe if you contact them they can get you what you need. Kudos to them!
Thanks Jennifer – I'll give them a call.
Wait, Jenny, the MSR Windpro canister stands only work with their stove canister connections. They won't work with any other stove's connectors. Bummer. That's why I gave you that MYOG pot support thing last spring, to work with your Kovea Spider. The world desperately needs a universal inverted canister stand, for certain. I have only been able to come up with inverted modified triangular pot supports, like the ones I make for use with the alcohol and Esbit stoves. I am still trying to figure out the right diameter of titanium rod to make them from, for proper stability, and also find the right sizes for both the 110 gm canister and the 220 gm ones. My creative geekiness is ongoing…but is so far somewhat unproductive. There must be someone out there that can do this right. You know, for the BPL common cause?
A plastic ring cut to allow space for the hose.
What do you mean, Ken?
I'm thinking a plastic ring about an inch or so high the you could just rest the canister on and have a gap for the hose. No moving parts. Non heat or cold conductive. Cheap and light. Everything does not need to made out of titanium, sorry. Side note: the RE are added in automatically, no need to ad the re:
It has been done many times. One of the lightest is a round plastic butter container with a slot in the side. It works, but it's a bit fragile. Cheers
Short length of PVC waste pipe eg. 3" downpipe.
all the way home
As blogpackinglight observed, if you are willing to eat the 2.1oz you can use the Primus clip on windscreen as an inverter – https://blogpackinglight.wordpress.com/2014/01/05/gas-canister-inverter/ This is pretty neat and simple as well – http://classiccampstoves.com/threads/diy-inverted-canister-stand.26928/
with notch cut as needed.
You're welcome
…one of the reasons I always liked the Optimus Vega (178 g/6.2 oz) better than the Kovea Spider.
