I would think if you modified this device by removing the extravagant foldable stand and made it attach somehow to an already carried tent stake you might cut the 10 oz. weight in half. I don't have a use for recharging but thought I would post for discussion. jimmyb

Cool – a thermoelectric generator Somebody makes a wood fired pot for heating water and produces electricity with the same technology. Maybe it's just a proposed product, I forget. Sounds like this is a real product. I wonder if you used a fire, it would melt the plastic parts? You'de have to be careful. It says it weighs 10 ounces and produces 5 V, 2.5 W peak – that would be 500 mA. I assume the actual power would be much less. My Anker USB power bank weighs 8 ounces and has a 10,000 mAh battery, so it has about 5,000 mAh of 5 Volts. If you ran the flamethrower for 10 hours (assuming peak power spec) it would produce that much power. Maybe 20 hours would be more realistic. Using a canister stove, that would never work out. It would take more weight of butane. Maybe an 8 ounce butane + 5 ounce canister + 10 ounce flame thrower = 23 ounces would produce the same amount as my power bank at 8 ounces. If you were doing a trip of a week or less, it would probably weigh less to just use USB power bank. This is similar calculation as a solar panel. Maybe if you were thru hiking it would work out. Probably a solar panel would be better.
