What do you mean when you say hash tagging? A hashtag is a linked work. You can search the word and see other pictures with the same hashtag. A hashtag does not give you the exact location of a place. Someone might hashtag #pnw or #sierranevada so that their picture is grouped with similar photos.
Perhaps you mean geotag, not hashtag?

Of all of the forums here, you picked "Gear" for this post?
Here's a more clear example. This article shows what happens:http://exotichikes.com/the-closing-of-vance-creek-bridge-aka-that-nwbridge/ The danger here is that morons would fall off, not so much environmental degradation. However, often times people get more specific with posts, leaving it easily identifiable, resulting in increases of traffic that it can't handle. Maybe you guys aren't so much into the instagram thing, which is positive in my opinion, but droves of others are. And it is surely having an impact.
Thanks for the helpful comment Mark V. Any suggestion where I should move it to? To be honest I didn't want to put it in some dustbin where no one has commented for 3 months. Mods can feel free to move it or delete.
Oh sure, it could go into General Lightweight Backpacking Discussion, or maybe Philosophy & Technique, or maybe even The Natural Environment. But it really should go into CHAFF. (There is a lot of action in Chaff and it is better than the political stuff that is dominating there).
On the Web perhaps? I don't Instagram or divulge good locations. Does that help? I think you will engage on a fight that you won't win. Damn kids Oh BTW I thought at first it was the the other L P Sorry you deleted your post.
Thanks Mark I'll be more judicious next time.
BPL Instagram photos have been accused of LNT violations. Lot's of photos that appear too close to the water. Been other threads here about that.
