Bearikade cutting my packs

If you have a sharp edge on the top or bottom metal of the can, just take a file or even some sand paper and file/sand the edge of to round it over.

How do you carry the can? I've carried mine up high and I don't think it's ever contacted rocks when I set the pack down. No cuts.

"It seems to happen when I set the pack down and the sharp edge of the can contacts a rock through the fabric." Yep. Exactly how I cut a gash on my Ohm. Easily patched, but not a good practice. Some of it is my fault as I tend to pack very tightly, making the fabric taut and susceptible. Now I pad the top edge with an article of clothing. That provides enough squish to eliminate the problem for me. I pack the canister vertically, making it easy to deal with that top edge. I think that even with a large radius on the edge I would have the same problem, so padding is the way to go.

I use a 1/8" Thinlight pad and roll the Bearakade in that while on the trail. Then at night I use it under my neoair.

"How do you carry the can?" I carry a Bearikade Scout horizontally in the midsection of my OHM, with the ends oriented front to back for comfort. It is a tight fit, with the pack fabric stretched tautly over the edge of one end the canister, but so far no gashes or cuts. The key, I think, it to pay attention when setting your pack down. There are many ways to damage a pack, and this is just one more.

Yep I carry it virtually on top. I cram my pack too tight as well. I tried rolling my gossamer gear nightlite around it but it didnt quite fit. Will try the thinlite…as I have one stuffed in my closet somewhere.

I use a Luxury Lite frame with a GG pack strapped on. There's a 'lip' at the bottom of the frame formed from three metal rods, not a solid piece of metal. I carry my bearikade horizontally on the very bottom of my pack. It's round contours fit into the gap formed by the rods on the lip just perfectly; you can almost imagine a 'click' as it fits in. Some people carry their canister outside of their pack on this lip, with the pack–or fabric cylinders that come with the LL– on top. It's very comfortable. also one of the reasons I carry this weird pack. I find carrying a canister up top way too unbalanced, but that's just me. I've never had an issue with my bearikade tearing my pack, and the weekender is a tight fit.
