I looked at, but it's definitely more mid-layer than base layer imo (190 gram/ vs 120 gram/ for the Merino 1 -or Lightweight as it's been renamed) and with a mid-layer I feel you really need a deep zipper which the merino air lacks completely I am curious how the 50/50 blend perform compares to the 65/35 that merino 1 uses

Can anyone comment on the drying times on the r1? Seems like when they changed the cut of the piece a year or two ago they increased the spandex/ elastane content by a good bit. Since the original was lauded as being a great piece in wet, cold conditions is there even a scenario where R1 is better than plain old micro fleece?
