Seems like uploading from the iPad makes my pictures weird for others, either sideways or deformed. How is this picture? ( selfie to show my hat)

So what am I doing wrong? What is the trick I am missing here?
when you take a pic with your iPhone/iPad, you then have to open it in Photos and edit it in some way, then save the edit. That will orient the picture correctly.
I make sure to save my changes and close iPhoto. Then reopen and post your photo. Edit: Like Doug says.
