A few weeks ago a big fire ripped through Lake county. I decided to head north and check out my local backpacking spot and see the damage.

The question now is if the yellow star thistle will come back weaker or stronger. Hate those things.

Yeah.Those pretty much ruled that area out for GGGs. If we get a long wet winter and spring maybe there would be a chance for something else, like poison oak. Glad your spot was spared.

Pine cone of the gray pine (Pinus sabiniana). The fire caused all of the resin in the cone to leech out to the surface, giving it a glassy finish.
