AT LAST! I have finally found a U.S. vendor that replaces batteries in PLB's (personal locator beacons) for a very reasonable price. I found Solution One Marine in Tampa, Florida on the internet. After a quick and pleasant phone conversation to make sure my beacon battery could be replaced (a McMurdo FastFind), I sent the unit off and had it back in just under two weeks. Total price, including shipping both ways: $130. And the new battery has a 7 year life, an improvement over the original 5-yr battery (which only had 4 years left when the unit was purchased…). The folks at Solution One were wonderful to deal with, helpful and very professional. They even wrote a "Thank You" on the invoice. Perhaps this info can help someone else. Over the past 10 years I have owned two PLB's and have only now found a vendor that makes battery replacement actually cheaper than purchasing a whole new unit. Kudos to Solution One Marine!
