After reading Chris Townsen's THE BACKPACKER'S HANDBOOK, which I find most thorough and helpful and agree with almost all of his recommendations, I tried Super Feet this summer. I hiked a 25 mile hike from Tuolemne Meadows to Happy Isles with my grandson and did 50 miles over New Army Pass to Mt Whitney and out with a couple of side trips in that hike. I wear the super feet in my golf shoes and play golf twice a week. The rest of the time I am in sandals. I have developed a strong pain in my right foot and my thighs ache more than I can remember. Is it me or the super feet. Haven't I given them enough trial and break in period?

if you did not have a problem before why try the insoles in the first place? Before Roger chimes in, he'll poo poo them outright. They are mostly marketing spin and I believe the majority of people who use them don't need them. They do work for me though. Keeps me wearing my shoes evenly and alleviating some knee pain. I'll bet your issue is with the insoles.

I love them–they work wonders for my feet. Nobody can answer that question for you but you.

Ken, I have used soft soles in the past, but was slightly plagued with a blister issue on the bottom of my little toes. I tend to pronate. The Super feet did eliminate the blister, but at this point the cure is worse than the problem. I can manage the little toes with some tape and manage well. I was just wondering if other people found them helpful. I am afraid I will have to go back to the soft soles insert. I didn't use any insert for years, but do believe the soft soles enhanced comfort and increased the possibility of more miles in a day and good recovery over night. I am sure that each body is different and what works for one doesn't work for the other.

There are serveral models of Superfeet. I found the green ones are too hard, but the softr orange ones work well for me. They vary in volume too. They can be a good replacement insole, but they are expensive. It riles me to spend 30% of the cost of a pair of shoes on insoles that shouldn't need replacement!

Where I differ is over what the root issue is (and I never use aftermarket insoles). I would look at the shoes themselves: are they suitable for YOUR feet? Width, or a lack of sufficient width, is a frequently overlooked factor. Excessive amounts of insole can easily make a narrow shoe feel even narrower and even more inclined to cause problems, so maybe I am not that far away from Ken. Cheers

I use the Pink Superfeet in my La Sportiva Nepal ice climbing boots. When I first got the La Sportiva boots they just didn't feel comfortable after a few miles of hiking or climbing my feet had a bit of a burning sensation. After a few trips I removed the insoles and replaced with the superfeet. I've used them for three seasons now with the superfeet and they feel great. In this instance I think it is a lack in quality in the La Sportiva insoles that was giving me the issue. I've never needed special insoles before. My other shoes/boots feel fine. Some shoe manufactuers just make crappy insoles, that's where I think the superfeet help.

Well, they're your feet so…. My experience with super feet was related to a Plantar Fasciitis issue years ago. The podiatrist prescribed super feet blues and the PF went away. After that I continued to wear the blues, changed to the greens and gave the oranges a go. Then one day it dawned on me that the PF was gone so why was I wearing the super feet. It was kind of like continuing to wear a cast after the broken bone has healed. Out they went including the ones that come with new shoes. Now I have lots of wiggle room and add to it by loosely tying my shoes so that in essence they are slip-ons. I will lace them tighter on steep downhills to prevent toe banging. It's working for me.
